Agreed.

We'll probably get a base 10/22 and jazz it up a little.

I like some of the scout style rifles people have put together, especially in the take down version.

the gif from the above artice is beautiful.

I thought it was a conventional sabot round at first.

You can't see much of a shockwave from the "bullet", but you can from the rest of the projectiles. Pretty cool.

The problem with railguns is the same problem that EV's have. As gasoline is an excellent battery, so gunpowder is an excellent battery. And a fast one at that.
You can compensate for that. But it takes a BIG battery. (and/or CAPs)

"The Navy’s current 6-inch guns have a range of 15 miles. The 16-inch guns of mothballed World War II-era battleships could fire a distance of 24 miles and penetrate 30 feet of concrete. In contrast, the railgun has a range of 125 miles, officials said, and five times the impact."

30 feet of concrete is ridiculous.

Who builds bunkers that are 150 feet thick? If you need penetration, google "MOAP". (wait, that doesn't work - you have to search for "Mother Of All Penetrators"... just make sure the link you click on is "SFW".

In all fairness, a railgun mounted on a giant ship makes sense (if current tech and budget support it). And then again, a tiny amount of gunpowder on a foot soldier makes sense.

I loved that video (animated gif) also. It was amazing. I wish we could build these kinds of things all day long and not have to kill each other with them.

1000 shot barrel life and a shot every 10 seconds with that kind of energy delivery is pretty amazing.

While the article does wax enthusiastic about an as yet unproven system, consider the 16" guns on an Iowa Class Battleship, if mounted in a single mount on a Destroyer, would literally roll one over upside down.. or more. That's a 2700 lb. shell. ( go ahead, figure that in Grains )

30 feet of concrete is ridiculous.

Actually, the WW2 sub pens in France had more than that, and Barnes Wallis developed the Tallboy and Grand Slam "Earthquake" deep penetrator bombs to take them out. Used on Sub pens & V weapons sites, also the Tallboy was used to sink the Tirpitz in Norway.

Consider the Tallboy the mother of the MOAP.

Iraqi bunkers built by German firms had far more than 30 feet of concrete, and the Iranian Nuclear Bomb sites are also known to have uber thick concrete caps to protect them. ( as well as being deliberately built in areas to maximize civilian casualties if attacked )

Smart bad guys and good guys read the same magazines. Aviation Week and Space Technology go weekly by diplomatic pouch back to Russia, China, etc. If current U.S. bombs can go 40 feet into reinforced concrete, folk build 50+ foot thick roofs on their bunkers.

They'd be stupid not to.

I took this walnut Mannlicher 10/22 stock and cut it down and opened up the barrel channel to fit my LVT barrel.

Next will be taking of the factory finish and then multiple coats of oil finish to bring the grain out and build a deep satin finish to the stock.

No, seriously, Go get them ATF.

You break a law to screw the citizens by lying about the law... you broke the law.

If I break the law, I go to jail. Katie should go to jail, since she broke the law.

If Katie can break the law and have no problems, then the law cannot apply to me.

I don't care how rich or important you are. If the rich can break the law, then it isn't a law, it's a whim.

>>>If the rich can break the law, then it isn't a law, it's a whim.

Bingo.

Therein lies the root of the problem that will continue to be a cancer in the U.S.A.

Rick folks play by different rules. It's a fact.

Regardless of how you feel about Hillary Clinton . . .compare how her and General David Petraeus were dealt with for their handling of classified information.

quote:

In January 2015, the New York Times reported that the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Justice Department had recommended bringing felony charges against Petraeus for providing classified information to Broadwell. Petraeus denied the allegations and was reported to have had no interest in a plea deal.[196] However, on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, the U.S. Justice Department announced that Petraeus agreed to plead guilty in federal court in Charlotte, North Carolina to a charge of unauthorized removal and retention of classified information.[197] On April 23, 2015, a federal judge sentenced Petraeus to two years’ probation plus a fine of $100,000. The fine was more than double the amount the Justice Department had requested.[198]

Do a little shopping into how concealed carry permits are distributed in NYC. The list is rife with wealthy folks . . . .

There is a reason Hillary gives speeches to Wall Streeters . . and not neighborhood organizations.

Yesterday I went by my favorite pawn/gun shop.
Looking at micro-pocket guns, I saw a S&W Bodyguard .380.
As soon as I stuck it in my pocket I was hooked.

It cost more than my 9mm Shield but it's almost half that size.

Gotta go to the range next weekend. : D

I'm guessing CCW applications and gun sales will be rising, and the pres/administration will be making an anti gun press release shortly.

It's a terrible tragedy and the man deserved more than death.

Kuntsman's article is full of factual errors...

Let me rephrase that. He lies through his teeth and makes things up. I doubt he's ever fired a gun in his life.

Bruised shoulder? I've watched Marine Corp instructors demonstrate the lack of nasty recoil to raw recruits by putting the butt, unpadded, mind you, on his nose and going semi-auto rapid fire. ( and still hit the target )

Bazooka? That's a recoilless weapon. ( which still has more kick than the mouse hunting round used in the AR-15 )

900 rounds per minute? Not physically possible. I've seen the split times on action function in slow motion.

I also notice the word AUTOMATIC being abused, misused and frankly lied about.

I could go on, but why bother. Lucky for me I will never meet this child of Geobels. I'd feel an urge to demonstrate the dangers of real deadly weapons... like a pencil.

( pop culture reference. See Heath Ledger's Joker and his "magic trick" with the Mob Leaders )

Fortunately for him, unlike Herr Kuntsman, I have moral issues with dishonesty and assault.

My 5'3" kid sister not only enjoys shooting rifles with bullets 4 times the size of the ones terrifying Herr Kuntsman, her idea of fun is shooting the x ring out like the carnival star game.

She also shoots a 9mm pistol in international competition, is an international fencing master & has competed in international meets with a freaking ballista.

Which when loaded with the right ammo can kill several heavily armored men with one shot. Considered artillery by any definition. ( including in ancient Rome.)

I don't often watch Bill O'Reilly. I was staying at my mom's the past few days though, and she has it on pretty regularly. He was of course talking about the Orlando shooting. I know he was a history teacher at one point in time. Knowing that, he really astounded me with something he claimed. He claimed that the second amendment gives the federal government the power to regulate the militia, and therefore they have the right to restrict the citizens in what types of guns they can purchase, and also to restrict them from being carried outside the home. Basically, you can only own what we say, and no right to carry them beyond home defense. He's wrong on numerous levels.

The second amendment guarantees the right to bear arms in order to maintain well regulated militia. Militias have always been drawn from a states citizens. Very different from our standing US Army. It was left to the states to regulate their individual militias. The fact that in today's world, the states have ignored this responsibility does nothing to change the second amendment.

It also guarantees the right to keep and bear arms, not simply keep them. This means to carry them. No doubt the states can have certain latitude in restricting what forms of carry is allowed, but the idea that they must be kept in the home is absurd given the simple test of the amendment.

Kind of sad to see O'Reilly going off on a anti-gun bent with such bogus information. He should know better. On that same show he admitted he really didn't know much about guns. That's fine, but it seems he doesn't know the history he taught either.
