Sounds like a complement calling you a super speeder, does that mean you get the VIP cell when they get you next time?

Ahh choo' mussa been goowin soo fass you skeered 'em!

Yep! We have a winner! Extortion it is!

My dad got a big speeding ticket, well over a hundred, I think he said it was in Indiana. It happened in 1940 something, I guess Hudsons were quite fast for the time. He never would go back to that state. He told me and my brother about it in the late 70's, after we were both 21(didn't want to influence his boys). That explained why our family vacations always skirted around that state.

Here's your answer:
"If you’ve been issued a ticket for super speeding in Georgia, you may be wondering how the offense will affect your Georgia speeding ticket points. Effective January 1, 2010, the Super Speeder Law fines drivers whose speeds exceed 84 mph (or 74 mph on a two-lane road) an additional $200 for the violation—an amount that is tacked onto the standard citation fee, which can be anywhere from one to several hundred dollars."

From:Georgia Speeding Ticket Points - Super Speeder Law
www.superspeederlaw.net/georgiaspeedingticketpoint s.html

I live 15 miles from Ga & try to avoid going there. I95 has really low maximums compared to Fla, if I remember correctly.

Glad they didn't have this when we used to go to Suches twice a year! They got 12 of us for pretty much 5th gear on the limiter up by the border, Hammer71 saved us with some serious bs'ing about tactical training departments or something.

Oh, I've read the website propaganda. I still think its bullshit extortion. If it was part of the citation itself, fine. That would be one thing. This looks like some blatant admin collections opportunity for them. that. I won't go to or through Georgia. They'll get none of my commerce from here out.

My question for you is, why do you feel the need to drive faster than 85mph?

Were you on a bike or in a car?

I was in a car, believe it or not running with late night traffic. New grand Cherokee, behind a new jag sedan. We both got plucked.

I have no problem with fessing up and paying the fine for the speeding citation. My poor judgement, I got caught, I get that.

What I have issue with is this bullshit blatant extortion scheme. Put the fine in the traffic citation...or don't do it at all. This after-the-fact administrative harassment is underhanded, and I don't see how or why they feel the need to do it this way. I got a ticket. No contest, I was wrong, I paid my fine and got my points. Don't like it...but I was wrong and I admit that. They should leave it at that, like every other jurisdiction in the nation.

I hate greedy assholes, and that's all this is.

Talk about double jeopardy......
I live in Massachusetts and got pinched in New Hampshire for pulling a wheelie. Cop wrote me up for "driving to endanger" or "reckless driving". I forget which.
I had to make a court appearance, judge said $100 fine. I figured the matter was settled (except maybe for some insurance points). But nooooooo
A couple months later I get a notice from the Mass DMV that my license is suspended for 2 months.

Extortion: Same thing here in Jersey, it's called a surcharge. Added to the ticket/fine/court costs. I guess you should be glad it's not 200.00 a year for 3 years.

Wait... so you paid your fine, and then they sent you a bill afterward?

That's lame. I'm emailing Governor Deal.

That's my point.

Paid my fine months ago. Got this notice, NOT from DMV but from DPS or something (Driver Protective Services I think). Obviously an administrative fee - they say it "will not increase the points assigned to your license". Not part of the "ticket", just a chance to try and squeeze another $200 out of motorists who are man enough to admit they screwed up.

that.

NY has ticket surcharges too.
They will take your license and put you in jail if you don't pay.

It's a way to make money while the politicians can say the Did Not raise your taxes or fees. Since "only the guilty have to pay" it's a near perfect sin tax no one objects to. And since it's not a fee they can raise the price with no backlash.

Except from the criminals and this is one area where the uber liberals don't get to be self righteous and defend them.......since it's feeding the machine they love.

PA btw has the fine structure ( not including surcharge ) posted on huge signs as you enter the state on the cX-way.

Nice. You choose how much you want to pay and set the cruise control.

Are you referring to the privately run tollway, where the fine is collected at the toll booth based on the time stamp on the ticket you get from the tollbooth where you get on? Never driven it personally, but have heard about it.

Many years ago I was traveling down the expressway in GA, when I hit a rolling slow clump. I got to the left and eventually got passed and punched it back up to speed, then noticed the cause. It was a state trooper going under the limit in the right lane. He was already making his move toward me at this time. I got real lucky though, the Porsche that was stuck behind me didn't see him either. He really got back up to speed quick, for a very short stretch. Not a good law enforcement style IMO.

If, when traveling along a toll road, specifically turnpikes, and you want to go YOUR speed, then simply toss the ticket out the window OR put it in your trash container in the vehicle you are driving. You will be charged from the beginning of the toll way to your exit. Some cases not any different, other cases a couple of bucks more!

Else potentially pay the "time stamp fine" imposed!

Been doing it for years

You should have been picked up in Arkansas. I was stopped there for passing on a double yellow and the officer told me that I could send in an extra $60.00 with the $120.00 fine and they promised not to tell my home state or my insurance co. that I was arrested for a moving violation. That I thought was extortion or black mail. But I paid it and no points and no insurance increase. I also learned that even though a driver waives you on to pass them and they pull over to the right it is not OK to pass on a double yellow in Arkansas. A $180.00 lesson.

I got this response, just now from the Governor's office.

STATE OF GEORGIA

OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR

ATLANTA 30334-0900

Nathan Deal
GOVERNOR

Dear Mr. Anthony:

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts regarding changes to Georgia's Super Speeder law. I appreciate your concerns.

So that this situation can be addressed to your satisfaction, I encourage you to discuss your ideas with your state legislators. The members of the General Assembly in your district can actually sponsor or vote on legislation on your behalf. Should you need their contact information, it is available from your county board of voter registration or by visiting http://www.legis.ga.gov/.

You can look up any bill under consideration by the Georgia General Assembly by going to the legislature's website at http://www.legis.ga.gov/. When such legislation reaches my desk for signature, I will give very careful consideration to the concerns you have voiced.

It is always good to hear from my fellow citizens, and I appreciate you making me aware of your interest in this matter.

What a crock. I'll be sending an email now to my state legislators.
