ok, i think i have a serious problem....

on my 99 x1 i went to check the oil today, and 2 days ago it was about 3/4 full according to the dipstick. now, today, the oil level is at the very top of the oil bag. so i left the dipstick/cap off and started the engine breifly, and the oil made a bubbling sound and started to overflow out of the tank!! WTF???

My oil psi light has never come on. the engine sounds normal. but i dont know what is happening???

Sounds like it was overfilled. These motors tend to have oil leak past check valves when sitting and it seems like you are low on oil if checked cold. And then when you start it up suddenly too much oil.Sometimes with an amazing launch of the oil cap and a geyser of hot oil.

drained a qt and a half out, now its not doing it anymore. lesson learned, check oil immediately after a ride. not first thing before a ride...
