My S2 worked fine until I replaced the igntion switch. Now it occassionally will have the dash lights on but hitting the start switch just creates a click that seems to be in the circuit-breaker area. Not starter engagement or noise from there. It seems more than coincidental that the problem started with the new ignition switch but I tried shorting out across the terminals of the switch without having any effect. I also tried shorting across the breakers.
It started when I push started it though.

Check to see if the small black push-on connector is mated down by the starter solenoid. That connector sends the 12VDC from the start switch (relay?) to the starter solenoid.

If the connector is mated and the starter still fails, then check for voltage on that connector to see if, in fact, the 12VDC start signal is getting there.

My S-2 had numerous problems related to the connector for ignition switch, the slide terminals would not always make a good contact, I cleaned, sanded, crimped but ended up wiring around one of the connections. The relays are also very susceptible to corrosion from all the crap thrown on them. I carry a spare now as I have had the main one go bad on 2 different long distance rides.

Up-date on the resolution of the problem. It finally failed while in the driveway so it stayed failed while I could troubleshoot it. (Previously it failed on the road and I'd push start it and then it would work again when I wanted to try to fix it.)

The starter relay would 'click'. I could feel it do so. But I borrowed the relay from my other bike and the engine started. Swapped them back and forth a few times to be sure. So it was the relay. Thanks for the input.
