'06 city-x with a drummer and open air box. The bike ran great for a month or so with the new pipe and filter, Then on the middle of ride the motor started to miss a little under excel.and the exhaust pops when letting off the gas. This happened the first night we had cooler dry weather in houston instead of the hot humid air. I disconnected my battery and checked all elec. connections and grounds. I then re-installed the stock air box cover with a few added intake holes. So far the problem seems to be gone. Could the open filter be overkill on the 984,s and force in to much air?

what ecm? any TFI/PC/megasquirt or Direct-Link type of modification to the fueling of the motor?

If you are running just the stock ecm the motor will be running too lean.

Even with the "race" ECM the motor could be running lean with the mods you described to the intake and exhaust.

It has the stock ecm. i took the open air filter kit off and put the stock air box back on with an extra air intake slot cut next to the existing slots. The bike is running right with no popping out the exhaust. HPD followed me to the gas station this evening with a tickit saying it runs a little to good. Ooops.
