I have been riding my XB pretty hard for the last few months. i have noticed that i have tire wear right to the edge on the left side of the tire but the right has a 1/8 inch or less strip on the edge. i did do a track day at Pocono that was mostly left handers back a couple months ago and there are not many really good twisty roads here but have found some.

I have also found, and maybe its just in my head, right handers seem much more difficult to take. I am pretty big and have the suspension set really hard.

So i guess my questions really are....

Are right hand turns more difficult?

would losening up my suspension help?

Is there a problem with the bike or maybe my riding style?

I would say if you tire wear is only an 1/8 inch from the edge your are maximizing your tires capabilites. So as long as you are comfortable and not crashing I wouldn't worry to much about it. I also find I can turn faster or lean farther on my left side. I don't believe it has anything to do with suspension but maybe more in our minds.

Most people are more comfortable leaning one way over the other when they ride. It is very common and nothing to worry about.

Left hand turns and curves are more open to your vision, less likely to be blind; plus roads are sometimes crowned so that the same lean angle to the left relative to the horizon will put the tire further over relative to the tarmac compared to a right hand turn.

As to suspension settings, what are your sag settings?

i had the suspension set to Two Up on the aggressive table posted on the board here somewhere? i did that because with full gear im probably 270lbs. i thought that with my weight and the fact im 6'4 and sit as far back as possible that would be the right way to go. i am thinking now though that it really is much too hard.

Probably so, I agree. Best thing to do is to actually measure the sag and set it to the proper range as specified. It is really worth the effort. Your rear shock damping settings are also likely too high for a single rider. A two-up scenario puts the passenger directly above the rear axle, so virtually 100% of their weight effects the rear shock. Thus using two-up settings for a one up scenario, even for a big rider is not something likely to yield acceptable results.

Let us know how your Buell's handling and ride changes once you are able to dial in the suspension settings. : ) No doubt, you will be pleasantly surprised at how well optimum suspension adjustment will affect your ride. : )

I can tell you this. I had put my bike to the specified settings as per Buell. I weigh 270 with gear, and it was way too hard. You know the weight scale they have in the manual? Well, I actually set it for someone who is 220-240 and then the only mod i did after that was to the rear comp and rebound. I put them at the 220-240 spec plus an extra 1/4 turn softer. That, so far has been the best setting i can come up with so far. The rebound and comp issues I had before and stiffness issues are gone. It handles so much better and is so much smoother for the corners. I know it's not in the manual, but i really feel these manual settings based on weight, are not for "real world" situations. Not counting in to factor road variations and uneveness of roads and bumps and trucks pulling out in front of you and what not. They are perfect scenario settings. Lets face it, there is no perfect scenario unless youre on the track and its 81 degrees and a slight cloud cover. Enjoy.

Thanks guys. i knew the suspension was too hard but my last longish ride (about 200 miles) really took it out of me. on rougher roads i though my kidneys were going to fall out. thanks for all the advice i will start adjusting and record my findings.
