SEAT:
By ken w on Wednesday, November 3, 1999 - 04:50 pm:

hi... this is for any of you that wishes your seat was a little more understanding of your needs... i sent my 98S3 seat out to be rebuilt...i didn't like the lines of the 99 seat as it covered up that cool, sexy line on the side of the bike....anyway i had a "propad" installed...this is not a gel but a dense cell polymer...before the installation my longest distance before screaming was 380 miles... now i have ridden from chicago to carlise pa 720 miles nonstop....way cool...the propad installed cost 125 bucks...but i had him recontour my seat so i could move around more and had my seat covered with scottish leather for 300 bucks ups'd to the shop i work at...his name is "alligator bob martin" and his shop is advanced custom design in lake villa il. ph #n 847-265-9378. and no i don't
get a commission, i'm just passing along something that has enabled me to ride further and longer.good luck ken w buell sales

Bagster Tank Cover/Expandable Bag

A Tank Bag Alternative

I have had great experiences with the Bagster Tank Cover/Expandable Bag on several motorcycles and would like to provide the following to any of you that are looking for similar products.

The fit is excellent on my S3T without any wind buffeting or sliding at all. The bottom of the cover is coated with a soft material and there has been no marking of the tank paint job as occurs with other covers. There is a circular cut-out to allow for removing the fuel cap.

The cover attaches to the bike in four places on each side. There is a strap around the steering head in front, velcro flaps around the front horns on the tank, stretch clips to the body work on either side and an adjustable webbing strap/clip to the tank retention plate.

The expandable bag (shown in its collapsed and near empty form) will hold 32 liters, which roughly means a full face helmet, gloves, rain pants/jacket. It has a large, clear and waterproof map window on top, a zippered pouch (large enough for a wallet, glasses, pen and summer gloves) on the rear of the top and an attached rain cover in its own zippered pouch at the rear bottom. It attaches/detaches quickly via unobtrusive clips on the tank cover and has a carrying handle and shoulder strap included.

The general quality of the work on the cover and bag is good to excellent. On a previous cover for my BMW I did have to have one of the seams re-sewn.

I have purchases two of these since 1994 from Baglux, UK. They will happily send you brochures and current pricing. I paid $263.86 for my last set via VISA in June of 1998. This included "postage/carriage".

The items were described as;

1 1367U-BLK ---- S3/S1 White (98) ----- 67 English pounds
1 801-BLKPVC ---- C1 Alpha Bag ---- 66 English pounds

Kinmel Bay, North Wales LL18 5JZ
Telephone - 01144 174 533-8080

There is a US distributor for Baglux, but I saved around $60 by purchasing from UK even after shipping.

Hope this helps - Not associated in any way with any Bagster businesses.

I posted this on the GDB too, but here goes...

I've got a '99 M2 and I need to raise the footpegs up some, I'm dragging them and the shift/brake levers on the ground. I've been working on a design of my own, but buying them would be much easier. I know that banke or someone makes something but I've been unable to find a picture. I don't want to buy 'em if they don't put the pegs where I want them or if they look like ••••.

Can anyone help?

Thanks, Doug

For a clean install, the KTM mounts are needed as well. Sorry - can't find the part numbers on them right now. The KTM parts person should be able to tell you - they are the same for each side.

Got off the phone with James Banke the other day. He will have a nice gloss catalog out any day. Call for one. The other item I want to pass on is that he will have a retrofit kit for the '01 bikes. He told me it would be a significant upgrade from even the factory's new shifter. James stated it is vastly improved and stronger.

Contact James Banke for more info. This gentleman is extremely nice, as many of you know, and takes the time to personally answer questions and take suggestions. I just installed the new swingarm support bar and pulley cover. Both items are very nice, as one expects from Banke Eng. James stated he will also be developing, very soon, a finish piece that closes up the open end of the engine case on the right side once you remove the stock plastic cover and stock swingarm support. It won't be a pulley guard, like some have developed, but actually a piece that fits behind the engine case. Ride safe.

Seeing as how the world is out of S1 White Lightning handle bars, anybody know what the difference is between them and S3 (not S3T) bars? They look to be very similar.

Jose,

I can't say for certain but they look like a homemade copy of Crossroads bars. Crossroads makes the Buell Pro-Series. But then again I could be wrong YMMV.

I just inheritied a 99 X1 from my son and would like to add my two bits about my new Corbin seat. I ordered a "Gunfighter & Lady" from the Corbin store in Daytona one week before Biketoberfest. The seat arrived in just over three weeks and it looks great. The fit is outstanding and it feels much better than the stock seat. My longest ride with the new seat has been about 70 miles and I have a total of about 300 on the new seat. I am planning a ride of about 300 miles soon and I'll keep you posted. I would recommentd this seat to any X 1 owner.

Has anyone had difficulty re-installing Napolean bar end mirrors? I had to take the throttle side one off because it was pinching the throttle grip and was holding the throttle open. I cut some of the rubber grip on the throttle off so the mirror wouldn't pinch. Now I can't get the mirror to tighten up. Is the rubber piece only good for one application? Can I get a replacement without buying a whole new mirror? Anybody else have this happen?
Thanks,
Joe F

I don't know yet if it will work on an S-2. Unfortunately I don't have an S-2 around to try it out on. A fellow Buelligan has an S-1 and he will be trying this on his in the next few weeks.

To put the Banke Shifter on a 2000 S3T, do I have to modify the left fairing lower? I've read that you have to buy different lowers to use the '01 Buell shifter and thought that I read Banke requires cutting the lower.

How does the S3 with its fairings protect the rider from the wind and cold weather? I'm looking at buying a 1999 S3T. I travel 300 days out of the year and am looking for a touring type bike to get a little more enjoyment out of driving 200-300 miles every monday and friday.
Is a 4 hr commute on a S3 a reasonable idea? Or will I be sore after I get to my destination?

Thank you
Chris

Chris:
Not sure about wind protection, but the fairing lowers do keep you warm. The problem is keeping the right one from cracking. Some people have velcro'd the lower mount with some success. I'm waiting for my replacement now.

I've ridden up to 400 miles a day on my '00 S3T and was not sore afterwards. I also ride a FLHT and am surprised how comfortable the S3T is.

Get a Corbin for it. Thousands of BMW riders can't be wrong!
I love mine for the road, I swap it for "sport" riding.

S3T seat: I have a Corbin Gunfighter & Lady seat and hate the thing. Only use it when my girlfriend is coming along for the ride. The '99 and later stock seat is quite good, and installing a Propad in the seat made mine perfect - and a lot cheaper than a Corbin. Absolutely no complaints from my butt on long (6-700 mile) rides. But if you want to try a Corbin, I'll be happy to sell you mine :-)

I'm with Henrik..I bought a slightly used one for my 99S3, rode with it twice, sold it for what I paid for it. The 99 seat is nice, the Corbin wasn't an improvement to me.

I run a corbin on my 98S1W most of the time. But I swap it for a saddleman seat for long rides, the corbin is thin on padding and the S1W is stiff shocked...by the end of a long ride, I can feel every pebble I hit with the corbin on.

Anyone know what is changed in the M2 "low" VS the regular one? Can these changes be put on an M2 at the dealer? Can they be put on a 2000 or previous model year M2?

I didn't get the M2 I was looking at earlier year for a couple of reasons - seat height and price. Well several dealers have left-over 2000 bikes at nice prices and the are selling a 2001 M2 "low" model. If I could (for not too much) fit the "low" parts on a left-over 2000 M2 then I might be in business.

Also, does the low kit change the handling, ride, or suspension travel VS the normal M2?

Thanks!

"too short" Dennis; I've been looking at the M2 "low", they get about 1" lower with suspension changes and about 1" with recontoured seat. One reason I bought an X-1 was because it's narrow and my 28" inseam won't let me reach other Buells. Went to the Motorcycle show last night, was amazed to find a new X-1 was too high! Good luck, Ed

RudderBud:
Without a doubt they will work. I have them on my 00' Race Stripe now known as an X-3. The worst thing you might need to do is re-position the brake line at the master cylinder. Take a look here and you can see what else you can do with an X-1: X-3
