Hello Fellow Buellers! I purchased a used 2001 X1 as a box of parts and spent 7 months putting it back together. This included rattle can painting which came out not too bad (until I get it into final look). After running it a few times without registering to work out the bugs, I finally get the bike legal and looked forward to enjoying it. Then the gremlin showed its ugly head. While riding from work on night it shut down and started up and did this all the way home (14.7 miles)! Over the weekend I checked the harness out and everything checked out fine. I put the bike up for sale out of frustration and then was when I realized the huge following for these bikes! After a few days I took it off the market and was committed to finding the gremlin. No electrical gremlin has ever escaped my wrath! So going over the harness, relays, diodes showed no problem there. Until I wiggled the main breaker! It came to life! She's ALIVE!!!! Tightened the ground terminal going into the breaker and took her for a ride. Bye bye gremlin! So I almost lost my second love (my first was a 2007 XB12r) because I wasn't patient enough. This and other issues I've had with my XB convince me that these bikes (Buells) are not for everyone! Thank you for having this forum available as a resource to preserving the spirit of the brand! |

That's a great story Ed! Thanks for sharing. Your experience reminds me of good friend and all-around swell guy, Al Lighton, who was always was good at reminding us to "check all the grounds." |
