I made a mistake and let my Buell (09 Ulysses) sit too long without riding it and now it won’t start. I replace the plugs (made sure I had spark from both plugs) and drained all the old fuel out. I added new fuel, but it still won’t start. I pulled all the intake covers off so I could get to the intake to spray starting fluid. When I spray in the starting fluid, it will run for a moment and then die. It will only run as long as I spray in the starting fluid. I disconnected the fuel line from the throttle body inlet to check for fuel pressure. Switching the ignition off and on causes a flow of fuel from the line, so there is fuel getting to the throttle body inlet. I need some ideas where to go from here. Thank you!

You have spark to the cylinders, confirmed by running on starting fluid.

You have fuel to the fuel rail, but do you have adequate pressure? If so, then it would appear that the injectors are clogged. Likely, given todays ethanol infused fuel, and depending on how long the bike was parked.

Try cleaning or replacing the injectors, if the fuel pressure is good, the battery is fully charged.

Hope this helps, Dave

Motion pro makes a good injector cleaning device. Make sure you order the HD injector pigtail. Oh also make sure you are getting injector signal at the injector wire connectors. Use a noid light probably can get free loaner from O'rileys or buy from horrible freight. The signal will flash if you plug the gm noid that fits good in your ford connector (ford part)the noid will be a little dim but as long that it is flashing your good.

Hi,

Thanks for the input. I’ve gone into the service manual trying to find out if the injectors can be removed without taking half the bike apart, with no luck. If you have removed them, please advise what I’m in for. The manual states it’s labor-intensive to replace the plugs, but I have that down to less than 20 minutes with only removing the left side air scoop.

I have done the throttle body removal twice without dropping the engine. Will need a 1/2 inch combo wrench with the close end swivel I use horrible freight. A small swivel head 1/4 inch ratchet horrible freight sells a decent one. Remove both left and right air scoops remove also remove the coil. Remove both throttle cables (be careful with them remove the metal tab first don't force) remove IAC,TPS, coil connectors remove fuel connector from throttle body by squeezing the quick release tabs pushing towards the nipple then pulling off. Now remove the fuel injector connectors. Put tape on them number 1cyl and 2cyl. Remove 4 each bolts and remove throttle body from top.

Note you have two different color injectors red front white rear. Be careful removing injector housing gasket use sensor safe rtv when reinstalling the gasket.

If you do or don't rotate the engine you will need to follow the service manual also you will need mechanical ability. This video will help. 09 buell dosn't have a front or rear flange markings both are interchangeable. https://youtu.be/rEVE9n_3BzA

The reason I mentioned the fuel pump fuse is I have had them not blow at the filament where it can be visually seen. Also label your throttle cables location.Take good pics with phone. One is throttle open the other is throttle close.read service manual on there removal.you will need If I remember correctly small 1/4 wrench to loosen the nuts to remove those metal tabs at that location. One other thing there is a bolt that connects the throttle body to the coil bracket.
