I just bought this bike. Been sitting for a while. No fuel pressure. Quick fix loose clamp on fuel pump. I road it for shot rides but hard and when I turned the bike off the fan would come on high then low. Witch seems right. The other day I got on freeway it seemed fine got in to a little traffic and I could tell she was getting hot but no fan. It’s starting running bad and died as I was trying to pull in the gas station. Turned the key off and fan comes on and stayed on for some time. Thanks

Welcome to the board. If it was truly overheating, you will get a flashing engine light and the bike will go into skip spark mode which is where it skips firing the rear cylinder every other time. That is pretty much impossible to happen if the fan is working, but worth mentioning as you monitor this.

I re-read your post a few times and I can't think of anything off hand that would prevent the fan from coming on other than the engine temperature sensor not reporting right, but I'm not thinking that is the cause here (yet).

Running bad can be many things, could be an electrical issue, possibly bad gas, fuel pump not working as good as you though, clogged injectors, etc.

The fan coming on after turning the key off is normal so at least that part sounds right.

Thanks for your response. I believe that the light did come on right before it shut off. I have rode it a few more times since then and it runs great until it starts getting hot. The fan only comes on when I turn the key off or hit the kill switch.( High then low )You had mentioned a temperature sensor is there a way I can test it? I Just ordered the EMC spy supposed to come in tomorrow. Thanks for your help.

Also I noticed when hot. Turning the ignition or the kill switch Immediately back on the fans will turn off. Turn ignition or kill switch back off the fans turn back on.
Thanks

Are you having heat causing riding issues if so what are they,It is a normal function of the fan too come on when engine is off. Down load ECM Droid app for free and get a Buelltooth to connect to your data plug. Then you can perform fan test and many other test with phone. Also you can do many other functions too enhance riding

Don't worry so much about what the fan is doing.
How do you know the bike is hot?

+1 on what Gabby duck said. Buelltooth and ECMdroid will help you diagnose it correctly.
