Good afternoon all, hopping someone can point me in the right direction, my sons 2003 xb9r has the following issue, the bike starts and runs fine with no fault lights on, it idles and revs fine in neutral, when you put it in first gear and give it any throttle at all the CEL illuminates and the engine loses all peer and quits. When you stop and start the bike it runs fine until you let out the clutch, the CEL light illuminates and the engine quits. I just had the head temperature switch replaced because the fan went inop, I also just replaced the battery, and yes, the battery connections are tight. Thanks in advance for any help with this issue.

First, welcome to the BadWeb.
Not that familiar with the '03s, but some thoughts . . .
A service manual is virtually a must-have. There should be a procedure in there to get CEL codes without any special tools. Knowing the fault code helps a lot.
Don't hesitate to check in the B.R.A.N. for a Webber nearby who can help. You may have to go to the home page and log in to see the B.R.A.N. section.
In the meantime, unplug the clutch switch from the harness and check to see if the switch is still working properly. Symptoms sound like the ignition is cutting out/off when the bike is in gear and the clutch is let out. The ignition system grounds through the clutch switch when the bike is in gear.
I don't know if such a failure would cause a CEL though.

Hope this helps, Dave
