I have a 2005 xb12r that does not have power to any of its gauges or switches. The gauges wont sweep, it wont start and I don't have any power to headlights or taillights. My main fuse is good and I have power coming into my ignition relay. I have switched all my relays so I know there good. Checked out the fuses and there good. I have no power to my ignition switch. Any suggestions. Really trying to get this bike back on the road before summer is over. Thanks

Sounds like a broke wire by the steering neck. Have you tried moving the handlebars back and fourth while the key is one?

No but I'm pretty sure has something to do with the ignition. I had keys made for my bike and started doing this sense.

Did you check fuses with a multi-meter or just by sight?

I had a custom key for my XB9 and it never had issues like that.

There are two sets of contacts in the ignition, maybe one of them is not working. Does the blinkers or taillight work with the key on?

Have you checked and cleaned all grounding points? steering neck, battery

As always with an electrical issue, start with a good battery and make sure the battery cable connections are clean and tight.

Don't have a wiring diagram for your bike, but it is typical for there to be 3 different colored wires to the ign switch on our Buells. One red wire, and 2 red w/colored tracers. The red wire provides power to the switch, and 'distributes' that power to the ign and acc circuit. Confirm 12V to the switch, then confirm 12V out of the switch to the respective circuits.

Since this seems to be related to the new key, the key or the switch would probably be the best place to start.

Hope this helps, Dave
