im having a CEL for a fan short to ground but not really sure where to start with this one as I'm not really familiar with the wiring harness on this bike at all.
i can tell you tho that the fan does work because I've been in traffic and heard the fan come on and I've also heard the fan kick on when i shut the bike off but its a intermittent problem i believe with a lose wire or a lose ground or something.

well i spoke to soon, i went out to check ground wires and everything looked good and pulled the fuse and it was blown so went and got new fuses and put them in there and ran the fan diag in ecmspy and it spooled up real fast and didnt pop the fuse so im not sure what the issue was in there. i guess ill just have to see if it does it again

sorry to make so many replys but i think the info will help.
so i ride the bike to the store about 5 mins away and i get on fire it up no CEL ride to the store get there still no CEL i shut the bike off and fan doesnt come on which is probably normal as the bike probably wasnt very hot yet.
so on the way home i decide to take a long route, fire the bike no CEL get riding and boom CEL comes on so i pull over real quick check the fuse and it good but no fan so im like hmm i get home and hook ecmspy up and pull codes and boom fan open/short to ground so im like well lets try a fan diag and nothing happens so i start looking and trying to figure out which wires are coming from the fan to find its own ground and im moving wires and looking around and i happen to look at the dash and theres no more CEL.
so i fire up ECMspy and run a diag and boom fans kicks on all is good.
so but this point im stumped so i fire the bike up and just let it idle its way all the way up to its reading 230 degrees in ecm spy and sure enough the fan kicks on and starts running so i let the fan run for a few mins then shut the bike off and fans runs non stop till the bike reaches about 130 degrees and shuts off so again i go back into ecmspy and run the fan diag and its working fine.
this is really stumping me here on what the problem could be

Sounds like you have a short somewhere. I think its your rear head temp sensor. Pull your seat and the entire airbox assembly off and check the wire that runs from the inside of the rear cylinder head to a small connector/connection near the intake, between the two cylinders. I believe this is where you'll find the wire to the rear head temp sensor. It runs under the frame spare. It's a very flimsy single wire connection. I was doing some maintenance on my 2007 firebolt and I noticed that the plastic covering the wire to mine was starting to erode from contact with the frame. I used some rubber tubing I had laying around the garage to encase the wire so that it wouldn't short out on the frame. Until you actually pull all that jazz apart and start chasing wires, you're just guessing as to what you problem might be. So, start there and good luck

alright so a little update as i keep blowing fuses i just went out and jumped pin 6 on the gray ecm terminal and grounded it right out to the frame and fan came on everything was good. i was like o well ECM must be bad then right, well after a minute i was like let me test some other spots to see if theres a better ground maybe else where. i jumped pin 6 and tested the spot on the left side where the ECM is grounded and the fan seemed sluggish so i jumped the post where the seat latches to and it seemed real good and then i touched another random bolt and nothing happened so i just assumed it wasn't a grounded area. after these few areas of testing i decided to try one of the areas that worked before and nothing, i jumped pin 6 and tried numerous areas that worked before and im getting nothing out of the fan at all.

i dont get how the fan spools up at full speed one minute and then is completely dead the next.

i went out just now again to jump pin 6 to ground and fan ran perfect and i let it run for quite awhile and no change so i decided to start the bike to charge the battery back up again and once i shut the bike off jumping the pin to ground did nothing again.
went ahead and ordered a new fan and i guess well see if that fixes the problem
