The check engine light has started to come on occasionally on my 2006 Uly. Putting a shunt across pins one and two on the diagnostic plug gives a code 36 which is the ECU seeing 12 volts when it is trying to run the fan and the fan isn't coming on. The book says to pull out the gray plug from the ecu and ground pin 6 in the plug. The fan runs, so the book says to replace the ECU. At $362 from the Latus HD, anybody know of another source for an ECU? Or some troubleshooting advice for things to check before replacing the ECU?

I'm not sure you could plug this one in, it's from an 1125r, but if it can be reflashed with uly maps, then here you go...

Thank you. I'll check this out today. One answer I got from a dealer service rep out here was not to change out the ECM, but to clear the codes to see if they come back. Didn't make a lot of sense to me, but the start-up procedure that indicates stored codes came up empty, so he may have something.

Two Seasons,
FYI
I checked the possibility out regarding the 1125 ECU and was told by a Buell technician it wasn't possible. I'll look some more and may take the chance anyway.
Thanks,

The All 08+ XB and 1125 models share the same ECM, but not previous years so that would not help you.

I recommend you get a ECMspy cable and software, you can do further troubleshooting with it, and if you do need to replace your ECM, you will need it for the TPS reset.

Also, for $250 you can buy a new ECM from Erik Buell Racing.

Just built a break-out harness for that side of the ECU. Will do the other side today (real tedious). Just installed the ECMSpy and ordered a cable.
