so, the factory battery in my newly purchased 2003 xb9s was dead when I picked it up, so I got a new battery, my concerns are, the new battery fits but the negative cable connector doesn't close completely, which is bad. here are some pics of what I mean  see the screw won't tighten the whole way because of how short the connector part is the "bracket" wraps around the cable and isn't far enough over and won't let the connector area go down flush with the battery  on this picture the connector area seems kinda raw and there is some separation between the metal bracket and the rubber/plastic hose that holds the negative wires, and the raw copper wires are showing up out of the top of the connector bracket crimped area. are those concerns I need to address and if so, how? I could just tape up around the bottom of the connector crimped area and over the top I guess would that be enough? is there a replacement ground/negative cable I should get? | ||

The remedy for your problem, "the screw doesn't clamp tight enough scenario", get a metal washer that will fit over the screw threads and is thick enough to allow the screw to fully tighten the battery cable fitting. This is a fairly well-known problem and the solution is really cheap! | ||

+1 for the metal washer! If the metal connector bracket is loose around the copper wire try to crimp it with a plier or solder it and its not a problem that the copper wires are showing out of the top of the clamp(they all do that)but you can tape it if that feels saver for you! |
