Nice report on these tires. I notice the rear has a more rounded profile than the D616 rear. It might be from the wide tire on a narrow rim, but I wonder if that would be a help off road? Have you noticed any error in the speedo?

The Scorpion Trails shouldn't affect your speedometer. The speedometer works off of the front tyre and the trails come in the propper size on the front.

Not so on the Buell XB's

The sensor is under the front sprocket cover and is mounted to the engine crank case. It monitors the output shaft (front sprocket shaft) rotation. Therefore rear tire size affects the speedometer and odometer.

Does anyone have pics of a 150 tire mounted on the Uly? I'm thinking about trying the Heidenau K60. They come in the 150/70 and 130/80. Good reports on handling and great mileage on BMW GS, 9k plus miles.

Thanks for the correction Husky. I looked up the speedometer in my factory manual and it does indeed seem that Buell has found another way to improve upon the mundane. I've even had the front wheel off the bike and I didn't notice the lack of a speedometer pickup. I guess you learn something new every day : )

question then, is if I put a rear Trail on...does the speedometer need adjustment...if so how? How much of an impact would there be?

The effect of going from a 180 to a 190 should be minor, maybe 1 mph at 65 mph.

Its the ratio of the tire circumferences.

I have an 08XT, and per my GPS, my speedometer reads 5 mph higher at 70 than my GPS, but the odometer is right on, less than 0.1 mile off in a 100 miles.

Check with a GPS!

Edit: I should add that on my XT, my gps registers 20 mph per 1000 rpm in 5th gear.

My GPS is within 5 MPH of my speedo with the 190 Trail tire on it. No adjustments are necessary.

Now, after my long trip, a tire wear update:

Scorpion Trails after 4800 miles. These last 3200 miles were hard. Fully loaded down bike, roughly 1600 miles of freeway, 1600 miles of back roads. And the tires got HOT! I often went 250 miles with no stops whatsoever. Not good for tire wear. Also worth noting, I ran on a flat back tire for a good twenty minutes (looking for the first pull off) after I caught a nail. That really cooked the back tire, if I were to guess, I'd say that took at least a thousand miles worth of rubber off.

But anyway, 4800 miles:

Front: 0.120" or about 4/32's
Minor (not noticeable in handling, only when you rub your finger across it) flat spot across the middle.
Still 76% life left!

Rear: 0.147" or about 5/32's
More significant flat spot across the center, still not noticeable in handling, only when looking at it or feeling it with your hand. The second picture shows it a little better.
About 55% life left.

(A note: My % life left is till 0, or bald, not till wear bars or anything like that)

Anyway, I'm still super pleased with the tires. I will be doing another 1300 mile long weekend over the 4th of July, and will post another mileage update after that.

New Update!

6100 miles on them now. Did a 1275 mile ride this weekend. Half 2 or 4 lane state routes, half freeway. Fully loaded (3 bags and aux. fuel tank).

Front:

Wear is pretty similar to before (human error in the measuring apparently)

Rear:
A bit thinner than before. Just shy of 4/32's now. 45% tread left till bald.

Here you can see the wear bar in the middle, plenty of meat left before I hit it!

Next big ride is in the middle of August. I'll probably need to mount a new set for that ride. I don't think I'll trust them for another 2000 mile ride at that point. The new set will definitely be the same type though, I love these things!

Last weekend was my last big ride for awhile, so I figured an update was necessary.

This last ride was 1200 miles of super-slab. The first half was cool and raining . Second half was sunny and warm.

These tires have blown away my expectations... notice I'm STILL a safe distance from the wear bars:
(rear tire, wear bar is just left of center)

Official Update:

Rear after 8500 miles:
0.084" - Just shy of 3/32's - 32% life left

Front
0.112" - Just under 4/32's - 71% life left!

3,127 miles on the Shinko Ravens and I am into the wear bars. Not happy with the feel of these tires and less happy with the wear / life of these tires. Got to find something else that is feels stable and with better tread life.
