So my bike has been idling poorly, vibrating like hell, and the fan is running like there's no tomorrow. I pulled the code - 21. The exhaust valve actuator is bad and while investigating this, I found that the tranny breather hose has been laying on the inside of the header for some time and has been cooked in half. There's only about 4 inches of hose left from the tranny. My question is this: Could the cooked hose be the cause of my vibration problems? I'm thinking there might be a bunch of garbage in the tranny. Also, why would the fan be running pretty much all the time?

At first blush, the idle/vibration issues and the fan running would (to me) indicate fouled or partially fouled plugs, and/or an issue with the spark plug wires. I would start there.

That being said, the fan running may be a separate problem. I'm guessing it is running because of excess engine heat from an ignition problem.

The transmission vent hose is pretty much a non-issue. It vents to atmosphere normally anyway. I'd just repair/replace it. It is spring, might change the trans fluid to be sure.

IIRC, the exhaust valve actuator failing will leave 'holes' in the powerband, but not affect vibration levels.

Hope all this helps. Please let us know what you find, Dave

I just order the actuator - $190.00. If I had a bad sensor somewhere, would it throw a code? I just replaced the plugs and the ones I removed looked fine. I'm not 100% certain my primary chain is adjusted properly. I am replacing the primary gasket and shifter seal possibly tomorrow so I'll let you guys know.

Don't know if tuber experience crosses over here, but ......

If you are confident in the condition of your spark plugs and plug wires, you might want to investigate/replace the eng temp sensor. An eng temp sensor in pre-fail mode (esp on tubers)will give the engine problems you describe, but will not throw a code.
