Perhaps this is what you are looking for.......
John and "Janice"

John Mikosh and "Janice"

NOTES:Fatory Paint: translucent gray cleared over gray with black lettering (look CLOSELY at the tail section and you can see just how cool the black under clear gray is) - Note Buell saddlebags (I still have the "catalog" and the Buell leathers (tough to make out in this photo)

Gentlemen:

I like the content of this thread. If at all possible it would be greatly appreciated if you could continue with the stories and pics. It provides a unique perspective of the heritage of the Brand and the people involved.

Thanks,

Bill

Steve: Devin's RR1000 is pictured here. I have an old magazine road test of the bike around here somewhere.

Devin's bike is VIN 1, but it's the 3rd one made. The first (John Mikosh's) and the second (Lucifer's Hammer II) apparently didn't have VIN's, they're also pictured on that page.

On the RW750's, I was under the impression there are only two of them (Dave G? is that right?). BMC owns one of them, bought it a few years ago, last I heard it was on display in their lobby. Erik owns the other one. There are pictures of both RW750's on that page.

Yes two RW's. The first one, the prototype really, didn't really survive. The bike was raced and would blow up. New parts fitted and raced again. Eventually Erik built a really nice one that we used for photos and it eventurally ended up as the Machinist Union bike. As these were race bikes they did not really have serial numbers and parts from the photo biek may not have made it to the Machinst using bike.

At one point we took a picture of Erik at his drawing board with two RW's assembled in the background. One was the photo bike ans was complete. The other was pieces hung together for the picture.

The bike that we built and presented to Erik was made up a stuff that was in the basement and barn. Dan Lang and others at Buell did lots of digging to make a bike that looks like the Buell did early in its racing and development. Before we put Buell Motor Company on the side. The managed to get old decals from some people who sponsorer Erik's racing and old AMA racing sitickers so that the bike look like it did when Erik was riding it.

It is not really the saem bike. The motor was loaned to a fellow who raced D-sport in SCCA and is an 850cc. It is owned by Erik.

The bike in the lobby is owned by Buell and is the one sold to the Machinist's Union.

The RR1000 vin 1 is indeed owned by Devin and Devin was instrumental in helping get Erik off the ground.

As far as the cruise is concerned, the story as told to me was;

Top dealers and spouses would get rewarded with a cruise each year. Devin took Erik. Erik cames armed with brochures and spec sheets and spendt the week sekking bikes. He came off the ship with a fistful of orders.

As far as Devin introducing Erik to Vaughn Beals and telling Beals that he needed to support this...that may have happened BUT I am pretty sure Beals was fully aware of who Erik was, what he was doing AND was being told by several people to support Erik. Having a top dealer tell him the same thing woudl have been important.

I think Devin getting Erik on that boat was the most important thing he did and without that happening Erik's road woudl have been toughter.

Then what was John Mckosh's PROTOTYPE used for if Devin and devins RR1000 was vin# 1. Dana

Bill,

Whatcha need to do is use the search option, to the left and type in "remind me to tell you when". Court's posts should pop up and then you just need to remind him. We should be able to get some good first-hand stories and much better than my second-hand account above.

Court,
If that picture is yours, what do you think about something like this?
 copyright
Took some doing to figure out how I could get the © in there, but I think we can protect your highly intellectual property, if I can use it (?).
I'd like to be able to do the same with with some of Dave's pictures, as I'm sure he's got some real cool photos stashed away too.

Aaron & Dave, I'm planning on dropping Devin a line this week and I'll inquire about the RW. Tom mentioned that they had the bike at one of their open house's some four years ago. Without asking him I thought it must be the one owned by the Machinist Union. So yes, I'm real confused now (easily done), but will see if I can get some clarification too.

As to the introductions, I'm sure you're right Dave. I should have worded it as he got them together to discuss what Erik had in the works.

Thanks, Steve(2)

ps, Dave, the History Channel's Modern Marvels show is on now, so I'm looking for the Roaddog. It was tough to spot while fast-forwading throuh the tape.

Here's some Buell history this picture was taken in back of Paramount bicycle's or Waterford bicycle's which ever you choose.Pictured from left to right are Cameron Towers(frame welder),some peaon that did what ever around the shop, very close friend Dave Neu(frame painter),and Kelly Gamble(engineer that came from TREK to work for Paramount on the Buell bicycle.Anyway this was the proto type in which they snapped the frame in half at the headtube jumping the bike.24hrs later this bike was due in Chicago at Schwinn headquarters for testing. They had to build another frame and paint it in less then 24hrs.This one was taken out on a stretcher pronounced dead 10 min. later in the shop of severe head trauma.

Even at cost thats $318 for the header. Ouch!!!
I already have about 5 of the header supports and the clamps are common t-bolt clamps.

At this time I don't need it but thanks for the offer Josh. BTW, do you have anything you might want to trade for those S3 fairing and tail bags instead of cash?

Single seat and an oil gauge on the RSS.
Designed for the Japanese market I believe.
