I have a 2002 Buell Blast, I have problems when reaching high RPM's. The engine begins to sputter at a high rpm the runs normal as the engine rpm comes down....any ideas on what might be going on? |

I'm guessing you're hitting the rev limiter. It cuts spark to the engine when the RPM are too high. |

Thanks, is there any fix for that? I'm not anywhere close to red line, bike just doesn't feel right. |

Well, my Blast doesn't show rpm's, but it's not letting me get full power in any gear including 5th, it starts to sputter well before I run out of throttle. My first guess would have been that it was the carbs. Is there anyone else who cannot develop full power with there Blast? Is this a common issue with this bike? |

Running lean or dirt in the carby. Check the rubber boot between the carby and the head. |

I'm not anywhere close to red line How do you know? If you're not near redline, it's not the rev limiter. The rev limiter is there to keep you from going over redline. Take your bike, put it in second gear, and see how fast you can go. If you make it up to about 50 mph, it's the rev limiter and that's just the way the bike is designed. There is nothing to fix. If it happens before 50, then something is wrong. These bikes are prone to manifold coupler failures, so I would replace that first (Its about $8.) It's the rubber piece here: If that doesn't fix it, I'm out of my league. |

I believe that it happens around 40mph, I will run it again to confirm. Thanks for ALL the input. |

Clearly the problem then is that you are missing a cylinder. I swapped bikes with my gf on a ride this fall- I couldn't believe how much I missed the power of my XB9S when I was riding the Blast! Topping out at 91 when on a freeway run in a full tuck is just no fun... |
