My 03 xb9r is giving me a fit!
It died on me about 3 weeks ago, since I have changed the stator, vr, and battery.
and it's still not charging!!!
I did test the stator this morning it has
3 ohms across all 3 legs, 10vac at idle and 20+vac off idle. Any one have an Idea on what is wrong?

3 ohms? That sounds a bit on the high side, but I can't remember off hand. Of course, most meters are not very accurate at that low end of the scale.

How high does the voltage (AC) go between the pins when you rev up the motor?

Based on what you have done, I'd recommend looking at battery terminals and grounds, or maybe even a parasitic loss with the ignition off.

When the bike runs what voltage are you getting at the battery? (Make sure it is the battery terminals and not the connections. This will help quite a bit. This really tells you what is getting to the battery and also tells you if the connection is good. Hey check the terminal voltage and the battery stud voltage. It should be the same.

Greetings Badweather bikers:
Like dusty above me here, I too have issues with my charging system. I have replaced the VR, Battery, and Stator, and rotor sprocket assembly. I get a charge of 14.4 at the dealership, but approx 24-28 miles into my ride out of the dealership a red light comes on, and my bike has died. Not once but three times and again tonight. I am frustrated as is this Dealership. Does anyone have a clue here as to what is wrong? We have inspected the harness for cracks or frays or any shorts, and everything looks good. I mean we changed the whole system and still she dies..! Short of getting a Catholic Priest to perform an Exorcism, we do not know what to do..! My 2007 Ulysses has been rode well over 19,000 miles. My only hic-cup was a bad rear wheel bearing and a goofy muffler that had been once replaced but still gets so rusty looking that you need a tetnus shot just from looking at it. I need help, and i need answers. Yahoo's XB12X forum turned me onto you guys. Maybe you have answers. Thanx for any help you may offer.

Start with the basics. 1 can of black BBQ paint, applied yearly. Easy Peasy.

For the electrical problem, lets start with the basics. Disconnect the stator from the voltage regulator, and measure the resistances between each pin, and the resistance from each pin to ground.

While you have it disconnected, put the meter on AC and measure the voltage (carefully) between the pins at a few different rev ranges. That'll let us declare your stator either good or bad, and we can move on from there.

For the charging system . . . may I suggest a Cathodic Priest?

Listen to Bill . . . he knows of what he speaks. You can get a lot of good advise here. Bill, if you need the wiring diagram and Electrical Diagnostics Manual, let me know and I'll get a copy sent to you.
