i am looking for a shoe/boot that will provide some ankle protection, but still be something i could walk in. i like the looks of the alpinestars octane, but i can't find anyone with them in stock locally. does anyone have any input on them, or a different suggestion? i also kinda liked the sidi doha.

AGV makes one that is like what you described, very comfortable, even walking around ! Sorry I don't remember the name or model number.....trouble with boots is that hardly anyone keeps 'em in stock...

I have the SIDI Dohas. They're all swede with reinforced tops to accommodate shifting. I'm a relative newbie to riding, but my usual OP is to ride them to work and then change into my "work" shoes, which might be a steel-toed shoe or sneakers, depending on the requirements of the day. Most times I forget to change shoes and end up wearing the Dohas until I notice I still have them on. They are extremely comfortable for me.

I was looking for something that wouldn't come across as a work boot or motorcycle boot and was comfortable for casual activities when a boot change wasn't convenient. I took a chance on the SIDIs and have not been disappointed. The swede mats down a bit from the shift lever, so it isn't completely unnoticeable. They are 100% black, despite what the pix might show. The soles are a little stiff (good on the bike) but nothing at all that makes walking uncomfortable. Nobody stocks them locally and I ended up buying blind and paying sticker for them on line. No regrets at this point.

+1 on the Sidi Dohas. I wore these for the better part of '06 and never had an issue w/them. Still have them but now prefer to wear something with hard shin and ankle protection as I do alot more highway riding now.

Very well built and very cozy off of the bike.

If buying online, check out newenough. Very good and easy return policy if you order the wrong size.

I have a pair of these. Love them. They are very light and comfortable for all day wear, on or off the bike. I got mine for about $150 with the Oxtar name on them. Seems Oxtar changed to TCX recently.

Well if those don't work out for ya take a look at the Alpinestar One-0-One's. Excellent protection and can pass for a work boot. I wear mine all day long at work and they're just as comfortable as any work boot I've worn.

thanks. i really liked the looks of the alpinestars. i found a lot of good reviews on the thors. i am liking them pretty good. they are fine on the bike. i wore them to "early-vote" today, and had to stand in line for about a half hour. they were reasonably comfortable. a little stiffer than a hiking boot, but they have to be a lot safer on the bike. i think they will be all good! if i ever run across some of the alpinestars that i can try on, i would definitely like to check them out.
