Back in the late fall I put Scorpion Syncs on my XB12Ss. I am not totally sure the mileage on them but it should be around 5k I do believe. Anyway they have been working great until the past few rides. They are getting worn and I need to get a new set but I noticed some strange wear after my front end started chattering the other day through a sweeper.

The front tire has plenty of tread left in the center of the tire. I also have been unable to totally get rid of the chicken strips. In between the two extremes the rire is worn down past the wear bars. Again I have yet to hit the wear bars in the center. From the center of the front tire outward the tire appears concave when viewed from above.

I have been running the tire pressures listed in the manual for the CityX. I am 99% sure the wear characteristics are pressure related. Obviously I could go down a few psi without using up more center tread than side tread.

My question is just how many psi should be safe for street use? Or am I way off base and it is a suspension issue and not a tire pressure issue?

I run 34f, 36r in the summer and 36f, 38r in the winter in my Syncs.

The last set I had wore out much sooner than the previous two sets.

Oddly the front tire wore out before the rear. That's the first time that's ever happened to me with any tire.

I'm thinking maybe something went screwy at the tire factory.
I got a fresh set on now. I'm waiting on a couple parts for the bike so they're still virgin, just waiting to hit the road.

Hopefully these will wear out around 4800 miles like the first two set rather than 3400 miles like the last ones.

I'm guessing the left side has more wear than the right. It that correct?

It depends on the angle the tire is viewed but I actually think the right looks a little more concave and worn than the left.

Thanks for the replies.

My Scorpion Syncs wore great, 8500 miles great. If I didn't use them for commuting the last four months they would have lasted even longer. Hopefully your next set works out better.

36 front and 38 rear as a minimum.

Sounds like you have ridden it with a low pressure.

How do you check the tyre pressure?

I use a digital pressure gauge as the ones at the fuel stations are always way out.
