I picked up a screw in my 6 month old rear 208 last summer. I have been running on a patch since then- my mechanic at the time refused to plug-n-patch. Needless to say, I haven't been TOTALLY confident and I hate riding with that in the back of my mind. I've been looking at the Qualifier as a replacement. Any suggestions? I only want to replace the rear tire at this time...is it advisable to mix and match?

IMO I would get a new tire ASAP. I would hate to hear that you tire blows because of that plug/patch. I just went through this about a week ago. My local dealer strongly advised me not to plug/patch a bike tire. Mostly due to the fact that your on two wheels. I run Pirelli's and they were out of stock. I told them to throw a Dunlop on there until a Pirelli came in. They wouldn't. They claimed two different brands, enough two different styles of the same brand can throw the balance of the bike off. Dunno...this is what I was told no even two weeks ago. Hope it helps.

I guess my biggest question is, Dunlop does not make the 208 Sportmax anymore, they have upgraded the compound and call it The Qualifier; if I put a Qualifier on the back and not replace the front, will it affect the ride?

The guy I deal with at my deal claims it will. I take his word for it. It's what he does for a living.

I had the Qualifier in the rear and the 208 in the front. It handled funny. I swapped for a Qualifier up front and it was super sweet, but not long lasting enough for me.

Well damn!....I talked to a friend at Downtown HD in Seattle and he said the Qualifier is just the replacement for the 208 Sportmax and that it shouldn't handle different...

Well, I guess I'll have to see for myself since I just bought it. I probably will go with a harder compound when I have to get new tires in a couple thousand miles though...

Thanks guys!

I've mixed dunlop 208's and qualifiers and could not tell much differnce! I also ran a rear Roadsmart with a front Qualifier for about 500 miles, no ill effects what so ever.
