I'll find out what the deal is and post. My GM says to go for it. I'm thinking two or three times over the riding season.

TRACK DAY: See attached... don't forget to add the costs for emergency response vehicles etc. The more attendees the better, until it becomes too many...

Hmm...

I interpret that as $700 plus $17.50 per bike. So the $700, plus the ambulance, wrecker, radios? etc would be the bulk fee paid by the dealers and/or donations from us?

I'm also assuming that I'll have to have attended the track school in advance? Otherwise, I don't know if I'll know what I'm doing out there.

If we're thinking two or three times this season, we need to know how much PJ's is contributing, how much we need to contribute, how much SFHD would contribute, etc. Also, we need to schedule it.

I was thinking we could all get together for a scheduling meeting sometime later this month. What's everyone doing on January 21st?

You guys also need to take into account that PJ's is not the ONLY shop that sponsers track days.
Cycle gear here in Albq sponsers track days, and Sandia BMW sponsers them also.
Kim and Mona did a track day sponsered by the Beemer shop last year, that included a real nice lunch, was very well thought out, and well organized.
You may want to get in touch with all the potential sponsers of track days before you put your money down with any one shop...

Just my 2 cents...

It may be worth talking to Sandia Motorcycle Roadracing Inc. (smri-racing.org) I think they actually set up and run the track days, or at least they did the one I went to. They are also the ones that did the track school, in the morning on the same day. They were really great about helping the school participants all day long.

Since the SFHD Mgt is ok with this, I'm sure Murrae will get the process started. He knows how to get in touch with SMRI, PJs, BMW, Cycle Gear, etc... The PJ idea was just an idea... The numbers of Euro bike riders are reasonable and manageable; the addition of a few more Buell riders might be an acceptable way to lower costs, keep track-traffic down, and meet some riders that also understand low end torque. We have some "cultural" similarities with Triumph, Ducati (and BMW) riders.

At any rate... count me in. I will pay a fair price for the opportunity to ride the track and improve my skills without the threat of traffic hazards...

I emailed PJ and will wait for a response before contacting anyone else. I'm interested in keeping it simple and reasonably priced as possible for everyone including the dealership. I would also prefer a "limited" participation to keep it safe, enjoyable and provide more time. I already know a professional racer who would probably be willing to provide some instruction.

Well this was exciting today. Went for a ride, about 10 miles into it. Northbound 25 past Gibson or Sunport, I forget, I'm about 600 feet behind a guy in a pickup and a trailer with 4 cars between us way in front of me. I see everyone hit the breaks and then the truck skids the trailer and shoots to the left lane then shoots to the right lane, tips over on it's right side and skids off the road. The trailer breaks free, it's on it's right side too, skids about oh 40 ft I think. They stop about 30 ft apart from each other. The cars in front and 2 of the cars behind him just keep going. 1 guy pulls over in front and one in back and I pull over closer to him. Run up, he's standing inside his truck just collecting things. 3 other people and a big rig stop. I ask him if he's okay and if he can unlock the door. It's like he didn't hear me at first and then looked at me. So I run around to the other side and climb up on the truck and the other guy that pulled over is holding the door up so I'm pulling the door up too and he climbs out. Another guy is calling 911. He's lucky or he doesn't know if he broke anything. The ground is nice and soft so it made like 6" to 8" deep ruts where the truck and trailer plowed into the dirt. They didn't roll and everything stayed tied to the trail except for a ice chest that was empty, a milk crate and a gatorade bottle. He had a ATV and other stuff tied to the trailer and it all stayed. The windshield in the right corner that touched the ground is shatter in a cirle. I'm not sure if he was wearing his seatbelt and not sure if he hit it. He wasn't bleeding and remember in only took me 15-20 or whatever seconds to drive up, stop and run up and he was already standing up inside, so not sure if he had a seat belt on.

That took up the first 40 mins of my ride. The other 40 were pretty much sitting in traffic for 30 minutes going down Coors to go back home.

At least I got to ride.

Oh and I forgot to mention that since I changed my idle from about 750 up to like 950-1000 on the tach, it starts up great in the colder weather. But I love the bumpa bumpa bumpa idle when it's set to 750.

Buellinabq-Glad you survived. The spec on the idle is 1050-1150 at full running temp. 750 may be a little low for the charging system, not to mention stalling and stuff hammering around. Not good.

Murrae,

I rode the bike to class yesterday morning in the teens. It started fine after not being ridden for a few weeks. Let it sit out in the cold wind, rain and snow mixture and it started up fine again. I haven't done anything except clean up the blowby from the airbox and whatever that sensor in there is. Problem seems to be fixed whatever it was.

So Bart... I was thinking that if you have a car in Las Cruces, and it was a choice of which bike to ride down there to pick up the car, then why not find another option where you don't have to choose a bike? Why don't you get someone to drive down there with you in their car and you can drive back in your car, and still have your bikes here?

Oooo... hadn't even thought of that. Is it still $59 anywhere in the country? That's a smokin deal even if it's only to Las Cruces. Of course, you better bring some air freshener.

Wow, you guys are ruthless.

So has anyone thought of some great rides for the summer?

I finally was able to get my bike out on Sunday, probably not the best choice. I ended up riding across more ice and snow on the side roads, then I would have liked.

No it wasn't really a big deal, but it does make you stop and think about things you do and who you are spending time with. Any time I've spent time around someone who wasn't a citizen, I had to report it. Just kind of a hassle.

Other then the off norm schedule I'm sure this a step in the right direction. I'll be working 4 - 10s wed. to sat. So it is going to make taking trips with everyone more dificult on the other hand. Every weekend having 3 days off, worth it.

Hey riders- CJ and I have been working on a ride schedule for 2007 that includes two events in Colorado with those guys, a Taos event, a Silver City event and weekend rides every other weekend from March through October. We should be posting it here sometime in the next week. Any feedback will be appreciated.

End Ride Routes.

So, that's sort of it. We figure that with rides scheduled every other week, we have a better chance of folks planning to make them and still having time for "honey-do's" and other activities. With the demise of BRAG, we're sort of in limbo right now organizationally, but we at least would like to have a loose affiliation of friends that like to ride together. Hopefully, you are all into that!

We didn't plan any Uly specific rides, but there are numerous possibilities, particularly in the Jemez area, for a combo ride where we meet at some point. Options are open and suggestions are still welcome. We can change any or all of these depending on weather and rider moods.

Let me know if you have any questions.
CJ

I guess I'm out. They are all Sunday rides which is a work day for me. The Colorado rides all fall on weekends I work Saturday too. The Taos and Silver City rides are the only possibilities for me because they fall on non work Saturday's, but that is too far ahead for me to plan on right now.

If there are Uly riders on the Jemez ride, NM126 from Jemez to Cuba, ridden from East to West, is one of my favorite rides.

Jm- I'm usually off on Tuesday/Wednesdays during the riding season, although I'm hoping to have one weekend a month free. We can always put together a mid-week ride.
CJ- Thanks for your help and posting the schedule so quickly.
Feed back is welcome here- it's still early and we can put together whatever you all want.
