I know MAACO does car painting... and you can get a whole car done for $600 or there abouts, but that doesnt include prep work. I know I'd need to sand it all down and remove the trim, but any suggestions on grit? wet? dry? There are also several other shops in town that do painting, but they all start around $1000... dont really plan on spending that...

Well, Maaco is a bunch of shit work. If you don't take the trim off, they paint the trim the same color, in the same pass, as all the other parts. They'll paint the windows if you aren't careful.

I used to work at Tri-Star Collision on San Pedro and while I think it has a new name, it's up off San Pedro & Wilshire, north of Paseo. Most shops will let you bring it by and they'll give you a free estimate. I'd do that to get started. Car Crafters is supposed to be ok.

I've seen the result of a MAACO spray job. It wasn't pretty.

And weather up here still sucks. : (

I traded the S2 for an '09 CR around xmas. It was purely as an imvestment. It's harder to sell a classic, hand made, limited number, beauty, than a zoom, zoom, ooh that's loud and fast, newer bike.
No one probably noticed because I was more interested in the go cart I bought than picking up another CR.

Frankly, I'm surprised. I know you'd been making noise about getting rid of the S2, but I never thought you'd do it. I woulda kept that dude until the zombie apocalypse. And then maybe rode it around some more.

Bart, and other 1125R owners w/ stator issues.

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/cs/jaxrs/downloa d/doc/UCM431179/INIM-PE12035-54388.pdf

may be too little, too late, but looks like NHTSA is launching an investigation into the 1125R/CR stator failures.

I have the EBR rotor now. I also filed, and won a lemon law case against HD for the 1125CR.

Nick,
The link is here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/37/690791.html?1360735418

There are more than 12 riders coming from NM, may want to get your reservations in !
I think we are going to have to break the ride into groups this year, just to keep it manageable...

Josh, are you referring to the 1125s? Were you looking more for an R or a CR?

There are fixes out there now for the issues at hand, however, not through HD really that I know of. the 1125's are great bikes IMHO, however not everyone will agree. I havent had many problems with mine, at least none too expensive. Mine has ultimately been a great bike for me, I have about 30K miles on mine so far, and am still on the original stator. The only issues I have had are a clutch leak (repaired twice) and my rear turn signals stopped working shortly after I bought it, but replaced those and havent had any issues with them since. I am also having a problem now with the fuel light constantly being on. I brought it in once, and they replaced the fuel sensor, but my problem didnt go away, I have to bring it back in to have them replace the entire dash now I think, but I am still under warranty until 2015. The issue doesnt bother me much because I know how many MPG I get and ultimately when to fill up by how many miles I have gone.

Other than the few small issues I love my 1125, and because of that I wont say I wouldnt recommend one, because I do recommend one, but you just need to be aware of the issues, but know that there are fixes available if you are willing to spend the $$

I would agree with Adam. All years 1125's had issues.
The '08's had instrument cluster issues, some would drain the battery which was the reason for the bigger stator on the '09's. they all had the clutch weep.
It's all a matter of how much you are willing to put up with. After 3 stator failures, and being told "they all do that" by an HD mechanic, and being refused by HD customer service to have them install the lower output '09 stator, I felt I had no alternative but to take HD to court for their pisspoor attitude.
Would I buy another one? No. I no longer want a bike that drips gas everytime I park it, in my garage. I have the same fuel light issue also.
Would I reccomend it? Sure. It's a great bike, a fun bike. I love the handling. But you have to be prepared for the quirks.

Well, thats good to know. Guess I would have some good questions to ask an owner when I get serious about it. I couldn't imagine why a water cooled bike would piss fuel (out the vent I assume). On the hottest days I dont get that on the Uly and on the X1 it leaks fuel out the vent if I fill up post ride, not really a big deal just release the pressure on the cap til it cools off. Are the 1125's feasible to work on for a DIY person? Like, are special tools needed?
I'm not in the market just yet, but would like to be prepared, not looking to replace either and would be nice to have contrasting Buell models. I saw a White/Hero blue 1125R and knew I had to have it one day.

The 1125R is fairly easy to work on just like the other Buells. The hardest part is adjusting the valves every 12K miles. but the basic maintenance is just as simple as an XB model for the most part.

and Yeah, for some reason, the 1125's tend to drip a little more fuel than the XBs do... at least in my experience. The 1125s get a bit warm, and the fuel will actually boil in the frame on hot days. I switched over to a race coolant and have had better luck keeping mine cool than with the stock stuff.

Speaking of a Uly. Yesterday I had a Uly in front of me going Westbound on I-40 around 4:00 wearing a leather Buell Jacket and had a helmet with a star on the back. They exited Southbound on 98th street... Anyone on here??-

I loved those blue and white bikes.
There are a few special tools just like the previous models.
Fork spring compressor; if you do your own forks
Clutch tool; if you do your own clutch/tranny work
Crankshaft locking tool; for removing stators ; )
You have to rotate the engine to change the plugs

The fuel drip issue is due to the engine boiling the fuel in the frame. I even did the California charcoal canister mod, but it didn't help.
Hope that helps

I couldn't imagine the Helicon running much hotter than the Thunderstorm, but I dont have any experience with 1125's. So far the Uly has been rock solid and the X1 has been good, minus a couple of much needed upgrades. I think the quirks are part of what I like about these bikes and pretty sure I can handle the routine maintenance. Still waiting for a White/Blue one to pop up for a good price.

I like the black and blue ones myself : )

I got out for a little ride yesterday. Nothing too huge, but I had to get out for a ride. The last couple months have been really busy with the wedding, christmas, prepping our house to sell it, etc. The weather was perfect!

Here are a couple pics.
