Yeah, that really sucks, Art. Sorry you're having such problems. I'm sorry to have missed the rally, but still having a fun time on my trip. I expect to get out tomorrow and see some stuff. I'll post pics.

ok, so I made a bone-head move last night, and before I go on...please spare me from the "you're an idiot" comments . (I know, trust me)

I got a new battery for my 1125R last night from Lost Soul-Mart. The battery looked identical to the old one, and according to their computer system, it was the right one. The only problem was that the positive and negative terminals were on opposite sides from where the original ones were located. I took for granted that they looked the same and connected positive to negative and negative to positive and now it wont start.

I figured I'd start with checking the fuses...any other ideas on where to go if that doesn't work?

That happened to Art on Friday, reversed posts on the battery. Check all your fuses, and the diodes.
If that still doesn't help, call me...

Woo hoo! Glad to hear that fish. TG for fuses eh? Bet that will be the last time you do that : )

BTW, I get all my Interstate batteries from Mor-Co on 1st street, most of the time they have blems for $35 installed

What an adventure the rally turned out to be for me! I left Tucson Thursday around 0800 for Albuquerque to stay at Bart's house prior to the rally. After stopping for lunch at a friend's place in Pinetop I headed for ALB, got rained on from McNary to past Quemado and missed the turn for 171. Ended up on 60 all the way to Soccoro. Made for a 550 mile day, got to see the VLA (cool) but got to Bart's place around 2000.
Friday morning we packed up, went for breakfast and planned on riding the crest before heading to Taos. Then my bike wouldn't start...back to Bart's house to diagnose a bad battery... off to Batteries Plus for a new one. We installed it without noticing that they sold me one with the terminals reversed, CRAP!! Unfortunately we didn't notice until after trying to start the bike, blew the ignition fuse every time we tried to start it. So, Bart rides home and gets his truck, we load up the XB and head back to his place.
Along the way home he makes an incredibly generous offer, he lets me ride his 1125 while he takes his S2, WOW, I am truely blown away and grateful, of course I say YES.
So we repack the bikes and ride out around 1300. Beautiful ride up following Bart's rapid pace on a unfamiliar bike, a fun and nervous ride. Saw the town of Madrid where they filmed Wild Hogs, cool. A few miles from Taos we got poured on, pulled over at a convienient covered picnic table to put on the rain gear and we were on our way. Got to Taos about the same time the Colorado group did.
Checked into the hotel, had a couple of beers at the bar next door and then off to Doc Martin's for dinner, not that great, out of chicken, slow service, pricey. After dinner we hung out in the patio of the place next door to ours and swapped lies, drank beer and smoked cigars. A great nightcap!
Saturday, on the road at 0830ish. Rode the enchanted circle, Bart broke off to ride home to work on my bike. Along the route we were stopped for construction, while waiting for the pilot car we turned off the bikes. When I turned on mine it wouldn't turn over, the rest of the group rides off thinking I was riding last.
When you turn an 1125 off there is an option to enter a PIN # as added security, that is the first thing I thought of, did I accidentally enter one without realizing it. A phone call to Bart and still not starting. Jody rides back on his 1125 to help. We pop the seat and find the lights fuse is blown. When we replace it with the ACC fuse, as Bart and Jody were carrying no extra fuses, she starts right up! Moral, carry spare fuses. Who knew that an 1125 won't start if the light fuse is out? On the way through Taos I stopped at the autozone for fuses. Dinner at the restaurant next door. Better service, decent food, still pricey. Watched some Motogp practice on Speed channel, went back outside by myself for a cigar and some beers, to bed around midnight.
Sunday, up and ready to ride by 0900. One rider short, Jeff overslept, after waking sleeping beauty, we were on the road by 0945. I rode with the Colorado group as far as Chama, what a great road, lots of 100mph sweepers, some switchbacks, little traffic! There is a 5 mile stretch through forest that is basically one lane, unmarked, that was fun until the rude Honda that wouldn't let anyone pass! South from Chama to Bart's house arrived about 1500.
During the weekend Bart got my bike running, but without the instrument cluster, then he fixed that too, a burnt diode. Bart is the man!
Off to Tucson on Monday morning after breakfast, this time I was going out I40 to 171, the way I was supposed to come out but missed the turn. I got just off 171 when the xb quit running, no fused blown, but a dead battery. After a call to Bart, he came back with the truck, I bump started it and limped back to the gas station at I40 and 171. He brought his tools and we diagnosed a bad voltage regulator, not sure if this is from the battery issue or if it was going out anyway. On the way home I made several phone calls, posted on the badweb, and then called American Sport Bike, they had one in stock and would overnight it to. Price was right, same as quoted form the stealerships I called. American Sport Bike rocks!! One more night at Bart's place while he went to work. Did laundry, watched TV, cigar and beer and bed.
Tuesday dawned a beautiful 55 degree day. We went to breakfast as the email from UPS said delivery at around 1000. When we got back to the house there it was, on the porch, my brand new VR! Install took replacing one of the connectors, about an hour, and on the road again was I. I took the same route as Monday, hit rain about 25 miles from Quemado on 171, rained pretty steady for a while, dry from Quemado to Pinetop. Stopped for gas and food, phoned home, watching some black clouds coming. Finally, hoping for the best, I got moving.
Torrential downpour!! From just south of Pinetop all the way to Globe. The Salt River Canyon was socked in with rainclouds, lightning strikes all over the place, rocks in the road like crazy! I dingin the front rim on a rock coming out from under a truck in front of me, don't know how I stayed on the bike. I pulled over to examine the damage in the downpour, didn't look to bad, tire wasn't damaged, held pressure, no wobble, so on to Globe.
The rain was slowing so after coffee and gas in Globe it was no to home. Got poured on in Mammoth, in the dark, with the raindrops glinting of the HIDs, kind of a cool effect.
Home by 2000, 502 miles, a great adventure.
I was the only Arizona rider to attend, thanks to all who attended...Jody, Bart, Doug, Bob, Jeff, Kim, I'm missing a name of a Colorado rider, sorry. Tiffany, Jody's sister and Bob's wife Diane(?) were very good company also even they didn't ride.
I had a great time, spent too much money on bike parts, met some wonderful buellers and can't wait for Springfast!! Once again Bart you are the bomb, who else would let someone stay with them, lend them a great bike to ride, wrench on their bike and still maintain a great sense of humor about the whole situation, he even left me his truck keys while at work! I can't say enough good things about my fellow buellers!!!
I will try to post pics here but there will be some on my facebook page too...
See you soon, ride safe.

Hey Art,
Great ride report! Glad you had a good time, bummer about the issues with your bike, but hey, at least you got to ride an 1125! ; )
American Sport Bike does rock! Al and Joanne are two great people that do tons to help the Buell community. Seems they are ALWAYS there when you need them.
bummer about the rock on the road, and the ding in your wheel. I remember kelly hit one on his city-X years ago on 191 and rode it like that for like two years without any problems.
I'm finalizing the dates for the SpringFast event will post them within the next few weeks.
Was good riding with you again, can't say enough about how well you ride with just one eye...
I look forward to seeing you next year, ride safe!

Adam,
I will be heading up to Colorado that weekend, and riding up there both on and off road the whole week. Kim was talking about riding up with me, and then heading back on Monday.
Maybe you could do the same?

Pagosa springs, lake city, gunnison, cannondale, montrose, durango, silverton, etc
Your talking about riding up on Saturday, right? we could probably meet up in Lake City, or Durango, Silverton somewhere.
You can ride up the high road, then across 64, to Chama, then up to Pagosa Springs and either go north to South fork to Lake City, or West to Durango, and Silverton. All good riding roads...
I am flexible, will be riding up on Friday, doing Engineer pass, and Cinnamon pass, and camping somewhere. Then riding somewhere to meet kim, and do some pavement riding. After Kim heads back, I plan on riding Crested Butt, and down the back side to McClure pass, and over Independence pass, and who knows from there. I'm on Vaca all week, and looking to explore alot of dirt roads ; )

Wow, Art! That's a great report! Lots of adventure!

I, too, can attest to the wonderful friendship and generosity of Mr. Bartlett. He's pretty handy to ride with because he always knows how to fix stuff, usually has the tool, and keeps a pretty clean bachelor pad if you need to crash!!

PS: He accepts green chile in trade.

1500 miles to get there.

Bart- I dont think we will be doing anything overnight this coming weekend as we have a lot of things to get done at home. We may ride up near Mora or maybe Taos... then again we may head south too... not sure. we were just looking for something a little out of town that would get us back by mid afternoon.

Adam,
thought I had read you were looking to do a 3-400 mile trip?
Kim is looking to ride somewhere also this weekend, you may PM her and see if she might want to do Mora with you guys, you almost have to ride right pass her house if you take the bypass to get to the high road turn off.

Originally, that was the idea... then we had a few things come up that we need to get done and it makes more sense to do a medium length ride that puts us back mid-afternoonish. It is a bit over 300 miles from here to Mora and back depending on the way we take, so that is always an option. I just thought that would be a good starting point as Stacey hasnt ridden the CBR any long distances in almost 3 months now, and I'm not sure her endurance is built up for 4-500 mile trips yet. Hell, we rode to Jemez yesterday and she was a bit tired already. (granted we left in the heat of the day and were wearing all of our gear)

I dont know... still deciding on where to go. May just end up doing something short like Jemez through to Bandelier... we shall see.

G'day people, I finally have the time to sign on here. I've visited several times over the last 18 months of owning my 2000 x1, but i found the info' i was looking for then buggered off and did what i needed. Being a full time dad of a 9 month old, working graveyards and renovating the house with my wife, time is limited, but I'm sure everyone has similar time constraints.
I met Bart one Sunday morning in Cedar Crest about a month ago and he told me of other local Buell riders. Its nice to see and hear, i get tired of hearing the GXSR and Duc riders go on and on and on and ....well you get the point.

If you havent guessed it already I'll tell you now, yes I'm an Aussie, I've been state side 7 years, and lived up in the Sandias 6 of them.

Well thats enough BS for the mo', I hope to get to take a ride with some/all of you fellas one day.

Cheers.
