Brider505,

It looks like 54mm is the top triple size. Not sure if your bike has the tapered forks... this will make difference since you may not have enough room right under the top triple to clamp down unless you go really low... might make your ergonomics really uncomfortable and impractical.

I've only used the no-rise versions and they are 38mm (clamp width). You could probably clamp down a slightly smaller area.

Best thing to do is to call them... they are very helpful. Also, Steve @ Moto-Authority can help out since I think he's a Woodcraft dealer...might be able to beat the online prices.

Yeah, mine are tapered. went ahead and ordered the crossroads today so they should be here by Wednesday.

You can put me down for two Patches.

Cleared with work for Durango, who do I pay for the room?

I heard back from the lady at the patch place. a re-design at this point would be over $150 extra. The reason is that she didnt get my email back saying to hold off. Apparently the person making the patches has already proceeded in making the rest. Maybe we can do a re-design for next year?

Installed Crossroads 0 Degree bars and modified the fender a bit relocating the plate under the seat.

Thanks!
I am loving the more aggressive riding position and she handles well through the turns. I took her up south fourteen this morning to the Ponderosa and had a great time through the twisties.

It was a good morning. : )

Hm...

How's $4100 for an 06 Uly XB12X with 7500 miles sound?

Thunderbird has one that they apparently *really* want to get rid of...

Two questions:
- How is the Uly on dirt? Not like "hardcore trails," but the unimproved dirt roads we have around here.
- I've heard the Uly is very light on the front wheel two-up with luggage. I'm 240 lbs, my passenger is around half that - would we likely still have issues with that?

Thanks! : )

I had an '09 XB12XT and was not impressed with the handling characteristics while two up with the bags.
It wheelied at most red lights and stop signs and felt unstable in curves. It is night and day difference when it is unloaded. Unloaded it handles like a typical Buell. Loaded it is light in the front, and wobbles.
Rode mine to the 25th anniv homecoming and was so dissatisfied with it, I sold it and bought a Honda ST1300.
Now THAT'S what Erik should Aim for, a serious sport touring bike...

speaking of luggage. I picked up a set of Givi bags for my 1125. So far, I think they will work after a few modifications. The only issue I am having at the moment with them is that they ride on my rear signals. I am thinking about getting some flush mounted ones or at least something that doesnt stick out as much.

OK, I made the final arrangements today for the hotel for the Durango trip.

We'll be staying at Durango Mountain Resort. They can be contacted at 970-247-9000. After 12pm tomorrow, our group rate will be loaded and ready to book. Ask for the Southwest Buell Rally.

The rooms and rates are as above:
King room: $83 plus $13 resort fee
Studio for 2: $90 plus $14 resort fee
Studio for 4: $98 plus $15 resort fee
1 BR: $121 plus $15 resort fee
2 BR: $182 plus $18 resort fee

These are all at the Purgatory Village Hotel. Dates of stay are check in on 8/19, stay two nights, depart 8/21.

In response to the inquiry about routes up to the event: I don't know. If people want to meet up and ride up as a group, we can do that. If people have peculiar schedules and need to arrive earlier or later, they can certainly go up on their own. I agree that going up through Chama and Pagosa is much more scenic and enjoyable. Given the time, I'd opt for that too. However, if I'm working that day (which I might), I might have to take the speed route up US550.

Ping me with questions or concerns.

I'm down with sharing a room with someone.

Has anyone taken the Dulce route to Pagosa Springs? I snowboard there most of the winter. You start out at 550 through Cuba and then take a right at the two teepee's. your on a reservation road until Dulce and it spits you out past Chama. It cuts about 45 min. off the drive and the road is pretty awesome the whole way.

Jody, I'll split a room with you.

Brider, got a mapquest link to that route? I might be interested in taking it. I detest straight roads...

I will not be riding 550. I'm heading up towards Chama, to pagosa springs to meet Jody, then heading west to Durango.
Anyone that would like to ride with is welcome to. I will probably head out around 8am.

Room is booked! The guy who helped me was named Kelsey and he is a rider(KTM dual sport) and he was very helpful.

Oh yeah, check-in is at 4pm so we have plenty of time to get from Pagosa Springs to the resort.

I don't know yet what time I'll be able to leave to go up. I might have to work that day and then would have to leave late afternoon. I'll know more as we get closer.

As for Saturday, we do have a route selected. It's not a lot of miles, but it's a lot of scenery and a lot of potential for stops, photo ops, etc, and the roads are nice. You can always break away if you choose and do some extra stuff.

I Googled the route starting from Cuba so that it would route me through the reservation. FYI, in case anyone is interested.

550 to 537 N, Right on 537 to US 64 East. Right on US 64 East to US 84 West, Left on 84 to 160 and then Left on 160 W through Pagosa.

It sounds more difficult than it actually is but the road is full of turns and elevation change along with some great scenery.

I am fine with riding with whoever. My original plan was to head out of town around 10 or 11, stop in SF to have lunch, then make my way up toward Chama and Pagosa and then to Durango. I figured it would be about 5-6 hours depending on how many times we stop to stretch legs and enjoy scenery... it would get us there by around 4 for check-in time...

I am flexible as I have the day off. I dont think I will be able to leave the house before about 8:30 though due to having to drop the pups off after 7:00 and then get a couple things set up at the casa. oh well... still have a few weeks til that happens. I am sure we will figure it all out.

It's about 350 miles and is mostly turns.

Bart, I'll take some when I get home...

Ghost, looks like a nice ride. As much as I would like to do that, I think I am going to try to take a shorter route in order to try and enjoy the resort we are staying at. ; )
