It was a great time. I stayed with Buellhusker in NE my first day. Day one began with 38 degrees and rain. Later it was a heavy fog. I almost turned around. I was cold and wet and there was not enough heat coming off the XB. It was the first time I had the heated handgrips on high but it would not be the last for this trip. When I got into NE I was living the Good Life with sun and just scattered rain. I hooked up with a couple of baggers at a gas station but did not enjoy riding with them and soon left them. I later hooked up with two sport touring type of bike riders and rode with them until my exit to Jims house.

Upon arriving at Jims I got a tour of his garage. BMW, S1W, 1125CR and his Uly and other assorted bikes. A vet and race car as well.

Jim fed me and I slept very well. I loved him and his wifes hospitality and what a great area.

Day 2 Jim and I headed for WI. My Credit Card company decided to turn off my card and after getting a hold of them they put me in travel status or so I thought. I was still unable to use the card so my cash allowance was dwindling. Jim and I had a rain free ride via back roads all the way to WI. We parted ways since we were staying in different areas. He came by to see how I and the rest of the poor people were living.

Day 3 started with Court delivering coffee to us homeless people and we got a couple of "remind me to tell you sometime stories". I hope Court was not in trouble with his wife by staying out there so long. After Joe, Kim, Andy and myself heading to the factory. It was great seeing old friends and meeting a few new ones. It is always a pleasure to talk to Court, EB, Brankin, Neil and others. Plus seeing some of the great rebuilds we only see on the BadWeb. PK I hope you made it home ok, your X1 was fantastic. I left Saturday morning and did not get a call so I headed out.

An evening at Hals. I was getting a little bored so I decided to head out and told Kim and Joe I was leaving. Of course I saw Brankin and his friend Frank who built a great X1 that I have seen pics of. I got stopped by a couple of people and we talked S2 and S3s for awhile. I saw Joe and Kim leaving and joined them for a ride back to the tents.

I packed up and left Saturday in order to beat the weather. That did not work. I got rain in IL into IA and stayed over night in NE. The next morning it was cold and heavy fog with rain. I have been here before I thought. I rode in rain all through NE. About 350 miles. I did not start to get cold until I got close to Colorado. Riding in adverse weather conditions is as much a mental game as physical. I worked some math problems in my head, calculated gas mileage, used miles markers to check speed with the GPS and hauled ass out of there. I figured a cop would not stop me for going 6 or 7 over in that crap. I was the first time I wore a rain suit since the early 90s. It worked well however I tend to ride until I need gas or need to pee. Sometimes those two things to not line up. Those rain pants were hard to get off when your doing the pee pee dance at a gas station. I am sure I amused a couple of people.

I got into Colorado and the sky opened and the sun came down. I was finally able to shed my rain gear in Brush Colorado with about 200 miles to go. A quick call to Lynn and I headed home. I got about 40 miles from home and rain again. I pushed through and made it home with Lynn waiting for me.

It was a good trip.

On one stop close to Jim's house I kept hearing the XB fan come on. I heard it cycle and go out but I kept hearing it very faintly. I do not use ear plugs so I thought maybe riding all day did some damage. I pressed on. When I got to the camp ground and unpacked everything I noticed that the air pump for my mattress was turned on and drained the batteries.

I really thought I was having ear issues. I even told Jim about it when I got to his house.

The FTM-10 VHF/UHF radio worked well, the PIAA lights worked well in the fog and it was the first time I used them. The GPS would loose signal and it would not come back on until I moved the antenna. The hard bags on the sides leaked and everything was soaked when I got home. I do not think it was the bags but the fact I overstuffed them. My computer and everything else in the top bag was dry. I had no problem with the heat everyone talks about on this bike and it preformed without a hitch.

Did anyone end up staying at the Best Western? JoeRock and I came there on Wednesday evening but left on Friday morning since it appeared that absolutely no one had shown up.
