Echoing what Skully posted above: Damping settings have no effect on sag.

Neither do your choice of sparkplugs. Sure you can change your plugs to your "suspension adjustment plugs" - just be sure to re-install your riding sparkplugs after you've set your sag. That won't hurt anything either.

(OK, first coffee is kicking in, I'm getting pissy now)

I think the sag question has been resolved ad infinitum.

I apologize for not being up to date on Rossi's shock, Scott. I hope this makes you feel better. And thanks for the more moderate response.

If we ever get a chance to meet, I'll buy you a beer.

You are a difficult man to please Dj. You asked for a source so I gave it to you.
I assure you this was meant to make you feel better, not me.

You asked for an apology and I gave you one. If that's not good enough; screw you.

The offer for the beer is rescinded.

Remember that all Rossi's tech (and suspension)has to worry about is 1 rider riding the same bike in the same situation (racing) every day.
The factory has to make a suspension that can work reasonably well for a WIDE arrange of rider sizes (weights), speeds, road conditions, and ability.
I am guessing Ross rarely rides with his sidecases and top trunk on!
He also rarely encounters a pothole, speedbump, or gravel in mid-corner.
You have to take his tech's comments in perspective.
Kinda sad to see some of the nasty comments on this post.

Well gee whiz man. You don't think I ever heard a half-assed apology before?

The article covers much of what you noted. Apparently springs are changed quite often while damping is, for the most part, left alone; a few clicks here and there depending on the track. Capirossi has been using the same shock for 3 years!
This is all from the article, btw, lest anyone think it is my opinion.lol
