I ordered my '07 XB12s in cherry bomb red last week and am impatiently waiting delivery. Unfortunately, unless it's delivered early, I won't be riding until October. I am not expecting an early delivery but one can dream right.

Only left to decide (as far as the purchase goes) is if I want the extended warranty or not.

Anyway, I'm just excited to get riding ... I've been wanting a Buell for some time now and am so close. Now, thanks to this site, I already have a bunch of mods planned too hehe!

Personally, i wouldnt get the extended warranty RIGHT away. I would keep the bike for awhile and make sure you like it before you spend that much more on it. right off, you have 2 years unlimited miles, so that would give you plenty of time to make sure you want to keep he bike. And i will say, if you decide to get it, it will be well worth it. 5 years is a long time, and something is usually bound to go wrong. good luck with your new bike.

What's a warranty?

Buy a service manual and some tools.

Oh, Jesus where are my manners???

Welcome aboard and congratulations.

I am no mechanic, or at least I wasn't until I bought my Buell. Here's the thing, they are SO EASY to work on, ANYBODY can do it. But you MUST buy a shop manual.

For the price of a couple visits to the dealership, you can own the BOOK and all the tools you need to do everything yourself. Some people even mount their own tires although I do not. I found a local place that does nothing but wheels, tires and brakes so I use them.

This message board is in my opinion the best source for information and opinions on everything Buell. There are other boards that have some Buellers but nothing like this.

Again, welcome.

With a built in 2 year warranty you're probably good to go.
Most things (if anything) will go wrong within that time period, unless of course you don't ride much.
Enjoy your bike when you get it.
Why the long wait?
What happens in October?

Welcome to the board, and the madness we call Buellin'!

Thank you for the warm welcomes. : )

I do plan on picking up a shop manual and doing much of the work on my bike. This message board seems to be a great source of information and I'm already hooked! I have always tried to do as much work on my vehicles as i can, however I have had a car break under an extended warranty and it was really nice having all the parts covered by that warranty.

Right now I am leaning in the direction most of you are saying to go. Like you guys all said ... there is a 2 year factory warranty, I have plenty of time to decide if I want to add an extended warranty.

The long wait is because there is only 1 Buell dealership here in Utah and I put in the first (and only) order for an 07 Lightning. Looks like I will have the only Cherry Bomb Red one for some time! The delivery date is in October ... a long time to wait I know but I'm sure it will be worth it.

Thanks again for the welcomes and I'm looking forward to learning from you all.

That 2 year warranty is more than enough to work out any wrinkles in the fabric. In that time, you will come to truly OWN the bike and be it's caretaker. It took me most of first year to realize that taking the bike to a dealer is a last resort.

We will expect pictures of that new beauty once you take delivery!

If you wait for the extended warranty until your 2 years are up, it is an excessive amount more...just thought i'd let you know that

Yeah, I know that i'd basically be throwing away 2 years. However, the one time I had to use an extended warranty it paid for itself in one shot! I don't know that I'll ever buy it, but at least it's an option.

I will definitely post pictures as soon as it's here. Hopefully lots of pics ON the bike ... gotta get that break in done before winter
