Tonight when I came home I went to put the kickstand down and hit the shifter by mistake which dropped the bike into gear with the motor running. I did not have the clutch pulled in since I was stopped and in neutral. After I did it I restarted the bike and all seemed o.k. but I am a little freaked that I might have damaged something inside the primary. Any thoughts? |

Say a little prayer then ride it like you stole it. If it goes in & out of gear ok and you don't hear any strange noises. Ride it slow in 1st and listen for any kind of ticking noise,if you don't put an extra dollar in the collection plate Sunday. If your still worried, change your trans./primary oil and look at magnet on drain plug..........Charlie |

Best course of action to be safe is to deliver the bike to me so I can test it out for you.

Man Charlie you dashed my hopes of the "Its fine happens to me all the time" answer LOL! Now I have to wait till tomorrow to see if all is seems well while cruising down the road. Just what I need, a long night of laying in bed wondering if something is broke. When you going to be in town? Jason and I tried to hook up this past Saturday but things didn't work out. Perhaps we can try again this weekend if you are up for it (that is if my bike isn't trash now). Jackie |

Should not have hurt it unless rpm's were high and then you would have much more to worry about. Have done this many times on other cycles with never a problem. |

Luvthem... A complete non event, smile, relax and ride the bike. And do a little "happy dance" that you did not drop the bike when it happened, that was your only real risk! |

By the way, Thanks for the kind offer Blake! I will have to pass on your generous offer to test it for me. I somehow envision a blue streak flying down the race track with flames flying out the back. My idea of riding the bike hard is hitting 5000 on the tach LOL! If I wasn't worried about it before you tested I sure would be afterwards LOL!! |

Good luck at the races Charlie! You sent me a pic? Jason sent me a PM also but I never got it. If you get a chance try to resend it to John3-16@cox.net. I always enjoy pictures of reptiles and amphibians. If it slithers, crawls, hops or is slimy I tend to like it. If you run across any other creepy crawlies and have a camera snap me a pic or two. Be safe. Jackie |

Happened to me semi-frequently when I first got my 9S. Never hurt a thing. I've ridden for a ways in just that fashion, after breaking a clutch cable. Not the Buell. No worries. Bill |

I did that twice to mine. About four months later I had a failed trans output shaft seal. I don't know if they were related. The seal just started seeping a little and the dealer replaced it under warranty. If you keep your foot pointed forwards and move it behind the peg and bring it forward to catch the kick-stand with your toes you won't do it again . It takes a little practice and feel weird if you've been using your heel or toes in front of the peg for a while but I'm pretty sure they designed it so you could do it safely like I do. |

Been there, done that, got the stain to prove it. (in my pants! ) Now I never, ever, go for the kickstand w/o pulling in the clutch just in case... |

I have a rule when I'm on my Buell. My hand is always holding in the clutch when I throw down the kick stand. I do this even when the engine is off just to keep the habit. |

You guys were right. After a nice ride this evening all seems well. Man am I relieved. You can be assured that from this day forward I will always hold the clutch in until I get the motor stopped and the stand down! |

Technically no different to throwing wheel stands using the clutch method, only the bike don't stall doing wheelies. Most of the energy would have been disapated though the tyre wall and the samll jerk forward from the bike. |

"Technically no different..." When you bump it into gear at a stop with the clutch out, the gear shifting dogs bang into engagement with one turning and the other stopped and under load. That is potentially damaging and also what makes it sound so bad. When you have it in gear (dogs already engaged) and let the clutch fly, the dogs are already fully engaged and you are applying the load abruptly. That is much easier on the tranny . The gears are always engaged, the dogs (square cut notches) are what engage and disengage. Jack |

I kicked mine into second while raising the side stand, and the only thing I "damaged" was my en-you-tees. Fuggeddaboutit! |

I like the "small jerk forward" comment! I did it the XB12 whilst parked up and it lifted the front up onto the kerb before it stalled, leaving me an extra 8 inch of leg to find to touch the floor. All was well and I stayed on, but I also pull the clutch now! |
