The sales guy I bought my bike from used to work at the Buell factory. They had a Street Rod on the showroom floor, and I asked him what he thought about that engine or one like it making it into a Buell. He said that the factory had worked on similar projects just before the XB series was developed; and that the conclusion was the complexity and weight of the new engine created diminishing returns. Instead, they chose to do the best they could with what they had, and keep it relatively simple and light. Personally, I prefer the air-cooled engine, even if it is getting close to the limit (for heat dissipation) for a reliable, ridden-every-day street bike. Bill | ||

If Buell could swing a redesign of the XB models with the V-ROD engine, I think it would be a great improvement. Think about it, the V-ROD weight in at 585lbs dry. The Buell weights in at 395lbs dry. One the drag strip, the Buell and V-ROD are about equal in ET and speed. How much faster would the XB be with the V-ROD engine since the bike would weight roughly 495lbs dry. It would run like a scalled dog! | ||

When I was shopping, one of the bikes I was considering was the Ducati monster with five or six models to choose from. The S4R is the top of the line with a water cooled four valve superbike engine making 117HP. But out of the lineup I liked the 1000S best. The 1000S has a two valve air cooled engine making 94HP. My point is just because the engine is better does not make the whole bike better. What is done with the hoses, radiator, additional weight and such is very important to the whole bike. The next Buell may be faster but I will have to see the whole package before I think of trading the XB12 in. The air cooled two valve torque monster I have suits me just fine for the time being. On the other hand a company that comes up with the Firebolt and then the CityX will surely have some awesome things planned for the future. Very interesting and a company I am willing to put my money behind. Go Buell  | ||

Saw my first Street Rod today, and that thing is BIG compared to the XB12SCG they had beside it. I think I'd prefer to keep the weight of the Buells down, and leave the V-Rod engine for HD. | ||

In my opinion I don't see why the current xb engines can't be further developed. To try and stick a vrod engine in an xb frame would be an exercise in futility. Even if a new frame was produced you would still need all kinds of crap tacked on the bike to support the water cooling, etc. YUCK! Personally I would be much happier if I had an upgrade path for my current xb. Think Evolution rather than a new creation. xbolt12 |
