The previous owner of my XB9sx had a battery tender installed, but removed the connector when I bought it. I have installed them before on other bikes directly to the battery. I was curious if they connect directly to the battery terminals or is there another way? Is there a good way to run the wire so it can be charged with the seat on?

My '07 XB12S has it connected directly to the battery and is easy to access with the seat on.

Connected directly to the battery through the fuse.

Thanks for the connector location. Tpehak what do you mean “through the fuse”?

There should be an in-line fuse in the tender harness you are adding

I ran mine out the left side simply because it makes it easier to plug in the electric vest from Aerostitch.
Uses the same SAE plug.

Hey Guys I have been trying to locate information in the manual about the proper way to disconnect the battery without affecting the ECM. Do I need to do a TPS reset after I disconnect it or should it be fine?

What year is your bike? I would TPS re-set an '08-up because is super easy and uses a correction value for the IAC.
A '03-'07 XB is a manual set adjustment so it shouldn't be affected unless you replace the ECM. It one of those "might-as-well" things if you are familiar with the process go ahead, it won't hurt anything.

The Universal battery disconnecting rules are:
DISconnect the negative FIRST, and REconnect the negative LAST.

If you are replacing the battery make SURE the terminals are on the correct side, and never use a cheap battery. AGM 220CCA because 200CCA is not enough.

Thank you! That’s very helpful. My bike is an 05. I will just follow the procedure to disconnect the battery as long as it won’t erase anything. Im only disconnecting to attach my leads for the trickle charger. My battery seems ok, but I will remember that for the future.
