I'm 61 and in the past 10 years have had a Monster 750 and a Sportster Roadster. I've wanted a Buell XB, and found 2 bikes that look good. One is a 2007 XB9CX and the other an 2008 XB12SCG. My usual street riding is an hour or few hours of aimlessly riding around back roads. I'm also short, so the SCG appeals to me. I rode the CX briefly, and it was fine.

Pros/Cons of the bikes? From reading here, the 2008 seems the way to go unless there's a big difference in price. The more upright the riding position, the better. Thanks

My riding routine mimics yours, as stated above.

I rode a XB12X for 12 years. Only have 30" inseam but I managed to never drop it in that time.

The Ulysses has a nice (if that's what you like) sit up and beg riding position.
The seat is second to none comfort wise... at least that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

I suggest at least kicking the tires on a Uly.

Otherwise I'd go with the SCG.

I thought Ulys were tall, or at least tall relative to a Lightning. I have a 29” inseam so that matters.

When I test rode a Uly it seemed way too tall for me, with 34" inseam!

the uly was too tall for me with 30" inseam, especially after i tore my achilles tendon. I lowered the suspension to make it more manageable and it also handles much better. You can swap the uly tail section onto a Lightning Long Ss or an STT. that allows you to mount saddlebags and the comfy seat but teh footpegs will be very low which could cause ground clearance issues. before the Uly i had an XB9S and XB12S. really no comfort issues for just riding around, they were surprisingly comfortable. I preferred the XB9. Although it was not as torquey or powerful it was just a sweeter running engine. Only thing is the XB's could be a little twitchy which you might like or not. My lowered Uly is now like a later (2008 or later) Lightning Ss long. Still a little tall, great handling but not quite as twitchy. Might be the best all around. try them and see what you like.

Get the SCG. You won't regret it.

The SCG sold and I wound up with the XB9SX. Hope to get it registered and on the road this week. Thanks for the advice so far. I'm sure I'll have more questions. Thanks again.
