Hook it up correctly instead. You have the terminals on backwards.

The red wire goes to (+).

Also make sure your new battery is a sealed AGM battery, not one you can add fluids too. Given the angle it mounts when installed, the fluids will leak out if it is not a sealed unit.

Have the terminals on backward !!??
That's an odd outcome for the battery being connected wrong.

I put a Lithium battery (like for the EBR, RX) in my XB12. The thing spins the starter faster than it did with any of the OEM type battery's that I've had in it over the years.

Funny, I was kinda waiting to see if you'd just look it up for yourself..!? Not that difficult to figure out.

It's much smaller than the OEM battery case, so you'll need some sort of filler so that it doesn't bounce around too much while driving.

Nameso, (who has not posted in his own thread since), put the bike for sale:

https://losangeles.craigslist.org/sgv/mcy/d/buell- lightning-xb12-08-scg/6629576311.html

for $5500 (not running) and with no mention of the battery terminals being crossed. Buyer beware!

The fan is controlled by the ECM supplying a ground signal to the fan relay. Reversed terminals back-feed through the relay to supply it with both (+) and (-).
I've bought several non-running Buells to find reversing the terminals typically pops the start circuit fuse because it is N/O but usually no more damage than that. Only once did one need an ECM ($80) and I'm not sure if the battery reversing caused the damage as it was non-running when I got it.
