I've looked throughout BWB and have noticed that a large majority of XB9 owners, with clubman handlebars, also have risers.

However, I am not sure whether these owners have risers because the bars are typically from an 1125cr (which has a 1" diameter tube, requiring a riser/adapter to make the bars fit the XB9).

My question: Are risers/adapters needed for the XB if I purchase 7/8" clubmans?

Yes.
I put a 1125CR bar on my XB12s.
And again, yes, because of the diameter of the center of the CR bar.
Happy I did the swap (LONG time ago).
9 and or 12, same reason for the additional riser.
Also, the brake line needs to be a tad longer, and the clutch cable needs some "thought" on how to reroute it, but doable.
You don't need a different clutch cable if routed carefully.

Even with 7/8" clubman handlebars, you need 1" risers to clear the adjusters on the forks, to answer your question. The cheap and effective way to raise the handlebars ~1" for clearance is to get longer handlebar clamp screws and put a second handlebar clamp upside down under the bars.
