2009 ugly with 40k mikes. How many miles these go and what kind of problems? | ||

That is a bit of a loaded question. If you take care of it, it should last forever. My 08 has over 50k, my 06 also has 40. There are a bunch of uglys at over 100k out there. Take care of them and they usually will take care of you. Obviously there will be exceptions, but hope for the best and plan for the worst as they say. | ||

Like Froggy said. You are looking for problems where there are none. These are stupid simple machines, theres nothing that will wear out that is irreplaceable. If she blows up catastrophically for any reason, go buy another one. They're cheap. | ||

Billy Kane got 84K miles on his You before deciding to rebuild the top end. My Uly was at 70K miles before I redid the top end. | ||

Valve seals are pretty gone by that point but really doesn't affect the driveability too much, just uses some oil. Lots of gunk buildup in the intake ports but in the dead zone, so doesn't actually detrimentally affect performance. | ||

Excellent answer Joe. Many don't understand the care and feeding a mechanical item requires. If designed well, like a "tractor" they'll live a LONG while. I'm not sure I'm particularly doing that though. With the light traffic at 4:30 this morning, just keeping up with traffic, I was doing between 85 and 90 on my little XB1200S Mike | ||

2008 and later XB engines have larger crank pins and the bottom end will typically- --- live much longer than the previous model years. Top end life is generally the same. As mentioned before, maintenance and riding style are probably the most important factors on engine life. | ||

NBD there Mike. These engines will live longer running down the highway at 4000 than they will running down the highway at 3000. Less lugging, better efficiency, more power, sticking near the peak torque, and better oiling. | ||

The newer engines also have the oil jets for under the pistons. Older bikes like my X1 have none of these features but typically last around 100K miles before a top end unless oil pump gear goes. Stuff that was found to be failure points over time has been upgraded. |
