Just wanted to post a problem and fix I experienced. I have a 2008 Ulysses XT that was blowing head lamps. They would blow again after replacing. Then the check engine light went on during a long ride. A couple hours later my gauges went dead and all other lights went out. Then the bike died on the highway. Luckily I was close to home. After running various voltage meter tests it turned out to be a bad Voltage Regulator. I picked one up from American Sportbike for around $130. Problem fixed. Bike charges like a champ and headlight bulbs no longer burn out.

Sounds like you had over charging going on before it stopped charging. Be aware that you may have hurt the battery. Going dead is hard on the battery too. You may find yourself in for one more hit to your wallet in the not too distant future. It wouldn't hurt to get it load tested at your convenience if you know what I mean. Most places that sell batteries can do that for you for free.

I've also had some pretty good luck with the "smart" battery conditioners. Not the harbor freight one (that did nothing) but one of the better ones.

Run it through a bunch of cycles with the conditioner. It really does seem to make the battery bounce back.
