Okay guys I have an 03 XB9S with 33k miles that is new to me, shes been babied and runs great. I have noticed that twice now when going to start her up when shes cold that I will get a pop out of the exhaust and it wont start, if I let off the starter button and press it again she fires right up. Does anyone know what would cause this to happen?

Thanks,
Spencer

I have no clue, I am new to XBs (have had a tuber for a year or so). What's the best way to tell if the injector is leaking?

Sounds more like it's squirting gas and not igniting it.
What are the odds that the sparkplugs are original?

Difficult starting in the morning is usually my first indication that it's sparkplug time.

I was told the spark plugs were replaced 2 years ago at around 25k miles, bike currently has 33k on it. So they were replaced 2 years/8k miles ago.

That's the thing though it fires up perfect every time with no difficulty other than it doing this backfire pop out the exhaust thing twice and once I left off the starter and press it again it fires up perfect

thanks,
spencer

My 06 will sometimes fart on a hot start but never when cold.

It doesn't sound serious... start with the basics first, TPS reset, spark plugs, fresh gas. If it is still fussing, look for intake leaks, and check the head temp sensor.

Every once in a while mine will crank a few revs on the starter and then do a whole bunch of popping. It's like the timing is 180 out. I use the kill switch to "re-boot" it and it starts properly. I have no idea what's going on but it's no big deal.

This doesn't sound like the problem you have. My money is on spark plugs. Especially if you have started it and then shut it down without riding it a few times. Seems like they have a 10,000 mile change interval and you are nearly there anyway.

Great thanks for the advice guys, I'll swap out the plugs and see how it goes.

Thanks,
Spencer
