Broke a new clutch cable installing the flange / threaded part. I assume the side cover has to come off and find a way to remove the remaining piece. Is there a trick to putting the cable in? I thought I was not turning hard at all. ...little more than finger tight.

Thanks,

Chuck

You should be able to remove it with a left hand drill bit or if you are very careful, an easy out. My sequence for cable install is to thread it in, being very careful to keep it in line with the centerline of the hole and after it is snugged in place, then route the cable up to the lever.

Thanks,
Thought I was doing the same. Had it hanging loose as I twisted...

Were you using an OEM cable, or aftermarket? I've had to do some light machining on the "bargain" cables to make them fit. At any rate, the ferule on the clutch end is VERY delicate when even slight pressure is applied off it's axis.

You could try to remove it with a circlip pliers.

The threaded ferrule should be treated like it's made of glass. It is VERY fragile.

Once broken, the cable is toast anyway. Just cut the braided cable and shove a suitable sized torx bit into the broken stub and it'll thread right out. Or an easy out will work. It's about the only thing an easy out will work on without breaking :-)

Got it handled, took some doing. I was able to ensure no metal filings got into the chain case. I then ran a tap into it cleaning up the hole. Worked fine with an easy out type reverse bit from HF.

Thanks,
