I just did the first oil change on my new to me '06 Uly. Everything was going fine until I tried to the oil filter off. Ok, long(!) story short, the PO had Loctited the filter on. I finally got it of after much destruction (hammer, chisel, punches and heat) while destroying the old filter I found a spring on the ground. I figure it came out of the old filter. The new K&N doesn't have a spring and I haven't experienced this before. Does the spring go in the filter? The previous filter was from Walmart.
Thanks for any help before I button this up and go riding.
Paul

before I get told what a knucklehead I am I figured out that the spring was an internal part of the filter and simply came out because I destoyed the filter trying to get it off. So, as Gilda Radner would say on SNL..."never mind"

Dating yourself with SNL reference; original cast was the best...

Loc-tite on an oil filter?
I can only imagine how much fun that must have been.
Glad you didn't wreck anything on the bike.
Let's hope the previous owner didn't work on the rest of the bike too much.
JB Weld to keep those pesky spark plugs in, maybe?

Fortunately the spark plugs were not Loctited in, but as a I work on the bike ( I have put over 2K miles on it since I bought it) I am finding a few interesting tidbits. I'm sure I'll be asking more questions.
Still working on the antenna for the GPS
Thanks,
Paul
