snapped the belt on my 03 xb9r again.

I have found several threads on chain conversions and am interested if anybody has any links on what they believe is the best thread with the most reliable parts and install info to base my project off of.

(not interested in arguing chain vs belt)

The EBR parts are designed to be used with their chain drive swingarm which has slotted axle holes for chain adjustment. Unless you have their swingarm, you won't have any way to adjust the chain. You can modify your stock idler arm (not EBR's arm) or buy an adjustable idler arm made by Freespirits or Grandstand Designs. Here is a link to my webpage where I talk about my chain conversion on my XB: http://streetfighterperformance.com/xb12-turbo/dri vetrain/final-drive

I plan on modding my stock idler arm. I saw the pictures on your mod but can you explain to me (or link me to an explanation) how you did the modification.

Any recommendations on a 520 chain that wont break my bank? or one that will only break my a bank a little but still be worth it?

(also beautiful bike of course)

edit: I really like the look of your sprocket and decided to order the same one as yours (48 tooth).

A couple of things to remember when changing to chain drive on your Buell, as it may not be the panacaea that people believe.

l. A 520 non O ring chain is great for race use because it is lightweight and has less friction. Howver if you are going to use it on the road I would recommened going for a decent O or X ring 530 chain instead. Otherwise you will be renewing your chain on a VERY regular basis and it will get much more expensive than running a belt.

2. The Buell rear wheel has no cush drive fitted, unlike bikes fitted with chain drive as standard. This means that drive can be snatchy at low revs, and you can wear chains and bearings faster than would normally be the case.

3. Buy the BEST chain and sprockets that you can afford! Alloy rear sprockets are good for racing, steel is better for the road f you do more than minimal mileage. Remember you get what you pay for!

4. If you decide to go ahead with it we recommend a 27T front/50T rear sprocket and a 530 chain to give equivalent gearing to the stock belt.

Don't get me wrong, we sell chain conversion kits from Free Spirits and have used these chain conversions on all our Buell race bikes since 2003 because it gave us better gearing options.
