The patient:
06 Ulysses
The ailment:
Throttle locked up on a two lane high speed highway..on a bridge with no berm...at about midnight.

Lucky to escape that alive. Traffic was not sympathetic to my situation.

The diagnosis:
Upon some inspection, it seems the throttle body fell apart. The wheel which is attached to the throttle cable, and controls the throttle body "butterfly flapper" for lack of my understanding, has broken and come apart..like the shaft either snapped or in some other way camp apart. My repair manual and my parts manual do not show an exploded view of this mechanism..
Pic Attached

So, I ask the hoi polloi for advice, and what should be my next move.
I prefer to be a DIYer and not venture to the HD hellpit.

Anyone care to help out?

Broken butterfly shaft. It happens. From HD, the fix is a whole new throttle body, but there are a couple of sources for custom machined replacement for just the shaft if you search hard here and elsewhere.

I wonder if the engine ate anything important...

Thx for replies.

Reep, I don't believe so, because the engine didn't die, nothing weird happened like that. It will run at an idle speed.

WRR, thanks for the link. That seems to be proper fix!

Now to get it repaired, are there any pitfalls or tricks to doing this?

Unfortunate part is that now I will have to cage to Barber race instead of ride.BOOOOO.

I think its "Tootal" here on the Bad web that makes and sells them also

If he has them it will be quicker turn around then from across the pond.

PM him and ask, there have been a bunch of threads about this on the Big Bad and Dirty board

A notable part is that I have 2 06 Buells.
For conversations sake, and maybe a hail mary in the case it takes a while to get one of these...any chance that the shaft from my 06 xb9 will work?

Maybe to save my ride to Birmingham for the race, I can switch out the shaft on the two?

Yes the entire throttle body including the shaft is the same on both your 06s, so it will work.

Thx Froggy.

Would a complete swap work? Throttle body for Throttle body?

Indeed it would. Don't forget to do a TPS reset after.

Make sure you use Locktite 648 and/or swage the little screws on the throttle shaft.
