I recently purchased a 07 XB12STT. My wife has a SS Lightning Long, same year that I LOVE to ride. We also have a couple Sportsters.....anyway.

I am looking into either bracketed soft bags or possibly hard saddlebags for touring on her. Does the Ulysses racks and bags fit the SST? Seems I read that they share the same stern section of frame and both our XBs have the Uly seats. What's the best brackets that will help support some throw over soft bags? Looks like hard bags are going to run a grand, at least!

We are planning a long ride come fall and I was thinking a spare drive belt might be a good item to carry since both bikes would be covered. Swapping it is NOT something I would attempt in the field BUT having the belt might get us on the road sooner, if one breaks, and we find a shop that could handle the repair. The local HD dealer quoted over $500 for a belt replacement...ouch! Both bikes have over 10,000 miles on them so what other things should I check on specifically before the journey? I have them maintained by a shop in Greenville, SC that does a pretty good job but they are HD NOT Buell specific.

I'll have more ?'s I'm sure but TIA!

One thing I've added to my normal 5K maintenance is to pull the wheels off and pull the seals out of the wheel bearings so that I can pack some fresh grease in there. Haven't had a failure since I started that procedure. I've also decided that the "life time" belt has a life time of about 25K miles the way I ride my bike. I've used a rack system from Ventura. Very happy with it, but it's not what you are asking for. I would recommend Ventura if you decide what they have falls within your needs though.

The Uly doesn't share the same subframe and seat as the Ss or SST. They do share the same main frame though. It's possible to bolt a Uly subframe to the Ss or SST. Some electrical work will likely be necessary to finish it up (just guessing on that). I know that some have put aftermarket bags on with good results, so it is within reach.

For throw over soft bags just pull your Super TT's (STT) number plates and mount passenger peg brackets in their place, those will provide a more rigid backing than those thin plastic number dealies.

Might consider buying complete passenger peg assemblies in case you want the option to put a passenger on the back of your bike. There are generally sets with both sides available in the classifieds here or on ebay for not a fortune, from those who've removed them in favor of cleaner lines and a sportier look for their bike.

Super TT and Ss bikes can swap seats (I have one of either for mine), I thought the Uly seat would only mount on a Uly tail section?

I've got 1125R passenger pegs and brackets on my bike with the stock TT seat on it in my current profile pic if you're wondering how it will look on yours.

Congrats on your Super TT, they are great bikes, marketing was a real let down on them and they failed to sell well. I got to ride at a demo event on the local race track, full 15 min sessions on the XB12R, S, and STT in 2007. The Super TT was the bike I rode in my last session that day and it was the easiest for me to ride, and put a knee down with. Wheel base and ride height were perfect for me and handling was just a cut above the others.

They do pretty okay on fire and logging roads too!

hard luggage rack mounting brackets can be modified to fit. others have done it. i think welding is involved. buell soft bags will work fine, but are small.

Other then that, the Ventura system is your best bet.

I have made a couple of 2500mi trips on my '08TT using the Buell soft bags and the bag that goes on top with the OE number plates. The rear strap looped through the rear support bracket for the number plates; I used a couple of small bungees to hold the front of the bags down to the rider heel plates. Only problem: It does mar the finish on the number plates ....

I don't have the number plates but will look into the Ventura system. my wife has a ss Lightning Long and has a set of soft throw overs that work ok. I was looking for something larger. thanks all
