BIKE: 2004 XB12S

I'm helping a friend break down his bike for paint. Noticed this wasn't hook up to anything. It's in the tail , on the left side. Any ideas?

Thanks

Whatever it is, it isn't in the service manual. Closest thing I see is the vehicle speed sensor, but that should be under the pulley cover. Looking at your pics, it looks like the harness was modified given the electrical tape. Here is the list of connectors on the 04 S:

Is it possible it's a plug for a power commander or something like that?

It is where the exhaust servo harness to connects to the main harness. Has the exhaust servo and harness been removed from the bike?

Ericz has it right. According to my '08 XB manual, that is the exhaust valve actuator sub-harness (Japan only), connector number 165A. The wiring diagram shows the 3 wire colors as white, orange, and tan w/violet tracer. (Just in case a tracer color did not show in the photos ...)

Hope this helps, Dave
