I was asked this and had no answer. Anyone know the origin of "XB"?

The X means the Sportster series of motors, and the B means Buell.

Yea, it was somewhat recently stated that the x meant it was a sportster series motor

By that rationale, seems like any Buell with a sportster series motor could be considered an 'XB', tubers included

What I want to know is why didn't the 1125 get a cool name, like all the other bikes.

My 'XB1125R' is registered as a Buell Loki.
That's pretty cool enough for me.

Thanks Froggy. I had always thought the X denoted the frame design. Disappointed it only means Sportster engine.

XB refers to the frame design.

"Cross-Brace"

I heard this from someone on the factory tour.

Not to make it a pissing match, but the info I got was right from Erik himself about a year ago on his Facebook.

Cross-Breed

A modern sportbike chassis cross-bred with an antique powerplant.

That's how I've always felt about it.

I don't see any logic in the acronym standing for a frame design that 99 out of 100 Buell owners will never see.

I think i read it in an old battle-2-win magazine. i remember seein the frame pictured & it looked like an 'x' inside. maybe the editor just made it up? i'll have to dig into the old buell stash & see if i can find it

The Frog Man is correct.

Sportster based motor

you ask... what about the tubers... who owned the majority of BMC when the tubers were made?

Who owned BMC when the XB's came out.... and who has a really great track record of F-n up a wet dream on a dry run...

Remember... your XB was gonna have a turbo and put out about 150 ponies before the MOCO hosed the Buellco
