The shield on my ULY is a tinted/short one but I also have a clear larger one that I want to install now that it is getting cold as hell here in NJ. The short one has 4 hard black nipple things (haha) that go into 4 rubber grommets on the fly screen. The larger clear shield has 2 of the nipple things and then 2 screws with rubber pushed over them (please see attached pics). Does anyone know; do I have to take the flyscreen off and install those attached rubber sleeves behind/through it or something? I have some of the extra nipple things but they look too small for the larger holes that the current bottom screws are going through. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Is that like a well-nut?

YES

They did that on later kits because some reports of the larger screen coming off at speed and smacking peoples in the face!!

Take off the fly screen or just pop out the lower grommets, then reinstall fly screen. Then pop those well nuts into the lower holes, they will just sit in there, and then snap in the upper pins into the grommets, then install and tighten the lower screws. AS THEY TIGHTEN, you will see them begin to swell and snug up! I do not remember the torque rating on them, use some common sense and calibrated-wrist as you go. YOU DO NOT want this one coming off at speed!@!

You can also install it while the fly screen is off, so you can see how much it is swelling as you tighten it and verify it is secure, and then reinstall the whole thing as one piece.

Not difficult either way, but a cheap piece of mind, if you don’t want to upgrade to the palmer system!!

I put a couple of washers over the bolts on the inside of the fly screen to further compress the bottom grommet. this gave the screen more of an angle bringing it closer to upright to block more wind.
