EEPROM: BUEGB 231 vs. BUEIB 310

My stock EEPROM is a BUEIB 310, and I just received a BUEGB 231.

Can I safely run the BUEGB 231?

My bike is an '07 Uly

Thanks

No, the firmware is different, if you upload the different EEPROM the results will be unpredictable. You can copy the fuel maps and such fine, just don't burn the whole EEPROM.

So the conversations within "Fuel map for 06 Uly with a Drummer" are with regard to the Fuel Map and not the EEPROM?

EDIT:

What good are Fuel Maps from a different EEPROM?

The BUEGB231 is for a 9 and the BUEIB310 is for a 12. Putting those maps on the 12 will probably make it run like crap.

Thanks Terrys1980 - glad I checked first.

The map is what matters, if you load only the fuel map, you can overwrite your original fuel map without overwriting anything else on the ECM. The locations in the EEPROMS for various functions will vary, so you can just let the tuning program put the map where its needed.

I'm trying to think of an easy way to explain it. Think like routes on a GPS. A fuel map would be like a route, and a EEPROM is the entire GPS program. You can download a route from a Garmin and add it to your Tom Tom GPS, it won't reprogram your entire GPS. Now if you tried to take the entire programming from my Garmin and force it onto the Tom Tom, obviously its not going to work and you will turn it into a paperweight. It is the same idea with the EEPROMS.

On BUEGB231, the first piece of data may be for example, the redline. That same block of data on BUEIB310 may be the kick stand kill switch function. If this example were true and you put the 310 programming on the 231, the redline would be set incorrectly, and who knows what it will do. It is a little oversimplified, but that should give you an idea of what would happen. It would be like someone giving you instructions on how to fly a helicopter, yet you are trying to fly a plane.

I need to retract my previous statement. I need to sort through some of my maps.

The BUEGB231 firmware is used on both the 9 and 12 in 2007.

This is the maps from the Uly race EEPROM, firmware BUEGB231 calibration ID 106 P&A.

That is exactly what I have:

EEPROM, firmware BUEGB231 calibration ID 106 P&A.

EDIT:

I shot off an email to Erik Buell Racing tech, to see if I can run it in my 2007 XB12 Uly

I can give the step by step instructions on how to put the race fuel/timing maps on your BUEIB ecm. Do you have ECMSpy and a cable?

I have ECMspy...that would be great - thanks.

It is pretty simple since you are copying all maps and not just fuel.

Before you start making changes, fetch your stock EEPROM and maps, then save them somewhere they won't get lost.

1. Open ECMSpy and load the BUEIB EEPROM

2. After the BUEIB EEPROM is loaded, go back to the top and click load map and load the uly race.msq file I posted earlier.

3. All you have to do now is save the EEPROM as a different file. eg; BUEIB with race maps

Now if you were just copying fuel or timing maps it can get a little more complicated.

1. Open BUEIB EEPROM in ECMSpy

2. In another instance of ECMSpy open the Uly race.msq file

3. In the instance that you have the race maps loaded, click on the maps tab. In the top left hand corner you will see tps/rpm, right click and copy.

4. Now on the same tab in the instance of ECMSpy that has the BUEIB EEPROM loaded, right click on tps/rpm and paste.

At this point you will need to copy each individual map fuel front, fuel rear, timing front, timing rear.

If you have any question please ask.
I have a couple documents I can send you that might help you out if you want to do some tuning. PM me is interested.

Also have a look at Xopti's post here.

Great, thanks, Terrys1980 - I appreciate the effort. I'll get started this weekend.

John

PS. Once I have it completed, I'll be happy to make it available to folks here, if Froggy signs off on it.

If any of you get wild I have a program that allows any ecm data to be put into any ecm matching DDFI versions only. This is not for the faint at heart or non computer savvy. If done backwards you just messed up your data. I hope you saved a backup of non messed up "stock" data to fix it.

A brief note on it:
It takes the ecm(data: epr, xpr, bin) file of each map and the firmware layout for each. Then it does a search for byte width ,namespace and ect of your current version. Then retrieves the data from the eeprom you want to use and gets the data based on firmware and applies it to the correct locations in your ecm file based on your firmware. Then save the file as a new file and you now have a real full ecm flip of all the data not just maps pasted into the ecm which is only part of the data.

note 1: you cant copy ddfi2 to ddfi3 or any out of version mismatch. The family must retain the same. You can if you have a great buezd ddfi3 ecm get that data into the bue2d file. 100% of it in the correct order to not break the ecm. However, you must do it in this program ONLY FIRST then burn it in.

note 2: this is not a program you should use if you are not 100%. if you do it backwards in order. you will mess things up.

Hey Terrys1980

I put both timing and fuel maps on my stock EEPROM last night.

I will be looking forward to trying it out.

First I saved all four maps (timing and fuel) from the race EEPROM BUEGB231 (as msq. files). Next I opened a
saved copy of my stock EEPROM, added the timing (front and back) and fuel maps (front and back) to
the stock EEPROM, then saved that EEPROM under a new name; 'Jumanji'.

It all went pretty quickly, actually.
