...what is it made of? Is it aluminum? Just wondering because it doesn't show any signs of wear after 33k miles. My aluminum front sprocket shows an alarming amount of wear after only 2k miles though.....

I know the 1125R sprocket is magnesium, I'll have to do some digging to see if the XB is the same.

Do you have an after-market front sprocket? Is it hard-anodised.
Reason I ask is:
My idler/tensioner wheel showed no signs of wear after 15000 miles. I had 1mm skimmed off the diameter, to loosen the belt a little. 3000 miles later, it is showing a lot of wear. An old hand suggests I skimmed off the hard-anodised layer, and exposed the soft ally underneath.

They claim it to be hard anodized. I have no way to verify that though. But compared to the idler pulley and the rear sprocket, the front sprocket looks to be made of butter.

XB rear sprocket is aluminum for sure.

There are different types of anodize. Most people, including manufacturers, mislabel their products. In general, a true 'hard coat' comes in a very limited range of colors. Any of the decorative colors you see typically aren't the anodize you want for good wear properties.

Read down about Type II and III: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anodizing

Actually good information...
