Hello, I'm rebuilding a xb 2007 engine that suffered a massive oil leak. Because the pistons and cylinder are damaged (almost some parts), i would like to know if a pair of cylinder and pistons of a Xb 2008 as the same of a 2007. Can I replace the 2007 with an used 2008? At this time, i have not open the engine and i don't know if the flywheel or crankshaft is damaged, but the cylinders and pistons is ready for dust. Obviously i will check valves, valves guides, bearings, inner race... If anyone can give me an advice about the most important points to review, i will be very pleased. Thanks | ||

seems like you and I will be doing similar engine work. I am not familiar with engine repair so I will be checking on this post to learn what I can. Have you had a hard time finding the parts you need in general for the rebuild? Best of luck with this. | ||

I can tell you that I made the choice to go with new cylinders and pistons. You just never know what kind of shape the used parts will be in. My heads are shipping back to me today so I'll start putting mine back together soon, probably just in time for the weather to turn to garbage for the rest of the season. To be done properly you will need to have the cylinders honed and new rings. The honing must be done with the cylinders in torque plates because they seem to distort a lot when the head (or plate) is torqued down. These engines will run with huge problems, but the downside is that lots of stuff gets wrecked while this is happening. |
